As so he has been interested in volunteering on the Recreation Commission for quite some time. Since there is now an opening he is applying. Selectman Levine asked Mr. Morarski what he would do if there was no funding for new programs and fields. Mr. Morarski would not be inclined to extend the sports day, more creative uses of fields and facilities would have to be put in place. Selectman Dentino asked about Mr. Mordarski involvement in flag football program. Mr. Mordarski is President of this program. Grades 1-9 participate within sub groups of this particular program. Selectman Dentino asked Mr. Mordarski if he would give preference to one age group or another if field space became a big issue. Mr. Mordarski stated that the program is important to all ages but yes they would have to share fields or activity time if needed. Mr. D'Agostino stated that over his tenure the Town has developed over 7 acres of field space and there is still a need for more. Once the Recreation Master Plan is finalized the total need for more space and funding will be analyzed. Approval of the Preservation Act would allow the Town to purchase more recreation land. Committee (Levine/McCarter) 4:0 passes Board of Selectmen Minutes of December 19. 2007 3 Lee Azinheira, DPW Director and Mark Cook, Highway Division Operations Manager are present at meeting. Questions about roads not being plowed enough. The primary roads are cleared first and then secondary roads and subdivisions. The first storm was full of fluffy snow that was easy to clear. The second storm two days later had rain and sleet mixed in packing down the existing snow and ice. According to staff they cannot plow ice off the streets and some roads will not be as clear as others. The Town has limited resources and unless the Board would like to have them purchase more equipment and personnel not every street or road in town will be done in a timely manner. The DPW does have equipment for sidewalk clearing but unfortunately one of them is broken right now and unable to be fixed at this time. The DPW will be working over the night tonight to remove the snow and hopefully the ice from the downtown area. Selectman Dentino has some questions and suggestions for the DPW staff on how to better plow and remove snow, especially in the downtown area. Lee and Mark explain to the Board how they handle snow removal and the challenges of so. The Chief of Police issues a total parking ban during snow storms. There is also a winter parking ban that is in place all winter season. Selectman Levine also has suggestions on ways to help the staff with snow removal. Unfortunately these suggestions will not work as suggested. Mrs. Levine also suggests that residents help with clearing catch basins and fire hydrants. She is advocating for the residents to pitch in and show their community spirit. Selectman McCarter asks how the storms and snow levels have affected trash removal. Waste Management has been helpful in this area and they have not had any significant problems. None · Snow removal discussion how much money has been expended to date and what he anticipates the town will need to spend for the rest of the winter season.
