made available monthly. Donna Harrington offered a motion to accept of estimated

Correspondence: There was no correspondence.
Assistant Director's Report: Grandparents Raising Grandchildren: Josephine reported that there were
six participants at the first grandparents serving as parents program. People shared their
experiences, saying that the biggest needs were a respite from their duties and
information concerning retirement, especially the finances involved. The next meeting
will include Attorney Eric Shepard and financial counselor Kelly Fox. The question of
whether or not there were Social Security benefits available for these children was
discussed.
Memory Cafe: Josephine stated that three people attended. The residents who had
attended expressed concerns regarding their memory and requested some education on
forgetfulness vs dementia. Josephine stated she will be reaching out to the area VNA
(Visiting Nurses Association) to have an RN come to the next Memory Cafe to answer
members' questions on this topic. Josephine said she will inquire about having someone
from the VNA come and do a staff training how to best link clients dealing with dementia
to services.
Old Business: Town Manager —Josephine notified the board that the town manager is not available to
attend the January COA board meeting. However, he is confirmed to attend the February
13, 2019, COA Board Meeting. The COA is hosting Town Manager Dumas for a coffee
hour on January 23, 2019.
New Business: COA Luncheons -A discussion was held concerning our luncheons, where entertainment
is presented. The question was posed, could we please serve dessert following the
presentations, to avoid the distraction of table clearers and servers during the
entertainment? People talking and servers moving about is distracting and disrespectful
to guest performers. We will try to adjust this timing at our next luncheon.
Program development The board had conversations about new programs. It is not
possible to include alcohol at programs at the COA building. Suggestions for programs
were: paint night, demonstrations about gardening, jewelry making, travel, cruises,
Mystery Theater, conversational foreign language classes, dance, health and wellness,
sports trivia night, general interest speakers, board game night, TED talks. Nancy Graf
also suggested that we hold an event at a place like the Elks club, where alcohol is an
option. Dick commented that although the goal is to get people to OUR building, holding
an event that would draw a lot of people is a good thing in our effort to expand our
programming. It was suggested that we contact Charlie Mulcahy to ask about the
availability of the Elks for this type of event.
Marketing - Dick suggested that we hold an open house to which the public would be
invited, where we could showcase what we have to offer. Who we are and what do we
here? Spend some money to attract the over 60 crowds, especially those who may still be
working. We should have a brochure and possibly a video to explain programs. In order
to attract the still -working crowd, we need to offer programming in the evening, which in
turn, requires staffing and the ability to lock up the building at the conclusion of a
program that runs beyond the library closing time. Dick suggested that we go to the town
and Select Board to discuss this when we know what interest we have in this type of
program. Joan suggested that we ask the Town Manager when we see him in February. If
we ask for more funding from the town, we need to consider that we are possibly going
into a new building when the police station becomes available, and we will need funds for
that. Information can be disseminated through many outlets- social media, cable,
doctors' offices, newsletters, town signboards, etc. Visitor Nancy Graf suggested that we
use social media and all avenues of communication to ask the question, "What's on your
bucket list?" What can the COA do to fulfill some of these things? What do people want
to study, experience, and learn? This could be a tear -off part of the newsletter, which
people could return to a "bucket" here at the COA for suggestions
BESI Update- Dick stated he had no updates.
Adjournment- With all business being completed, Donna Harrington offered a motion to close the
meeting at 4:45 PM with a second to adjourn the meeting from Norma Smith. The
motion was passed by a unanimous vote.
