Treasurer's Report • As of February 27th, $1,400 was donated as a result of the Fundraising letter. Mansfield Bank has also pledged $1,000 but the check has not officially shown up yet. • Mike has posted the latest treasury report to Google Docs. Fundraising - Neil, Nancy, and Pat The 2019 fundraising letter was written by Neil, printed by Nancy, and stuffed/mailed by Pat. Each letter also included our brochure and Nancy's business card. This year we used fancy stamps from Nancy's husband's stamp collection - very cool! April 271h Cleanup - All • We reviewed the Cleanup Project Plan for 2019 and assigned tasks. Nancy will update the project plan and place on Google Docs. • Flyers are ready to be distributed. Ana will distribute to the local businesses. • Nancy will make sure all the Mansfield schools place the flyer in their e -newsletter. • Bertucci's and Fresh Catch would like to do another fundraising effort for us. Ana to reach out to both and setup a date. • Orange Leaf would like to donate again this year. Last year they took 50% off of one intermediate size yogurt for all Cleanup participants. Pat to follow up with Mario at 508-339-9020 to coordinate. • Pat to fill out form at Town Hall to have the Banner hung on Route 106 and work with Bay State Envelope to have the date changed. • Mike H. and Nancy will do a Cable Access segment again. • Neil stressed we need to make sure the recycle items are clean. If they are contaminated, they will not be recycled and it defeats the purpose. Neil will put together a list of what should be placed in the recycle bags. This information should go out to all the Precinct Leaders and Community groups. We will incorporate the recycling information into the template we use for the Precinct Leaders and Pat will guarantee the community groups are updated with the information. • Mike M. will put together the list of who will be on the t -shirt since he is receiving all the donations. Pat will come up with the number of t -shirts to order based on registration numbers. Neil will place the order. • Nancy has a box of small trash bags that Pat will start preparing. We will distribute a combination of large trash bags, smaller trash bags, and recycled trash bags this year. • Nancy will be at the Town Hall this year to oversee the dropping off of trash and recycled materials. • Last year Pat placed all the supplies in a reusable bag for the community groups and precinct leaders. This year, Pat wants to continue in the same tradition, but also have enough reusable bags for the precinct leaders to give out to each family/group/individual as an additional Thank You. Nancy has the reusable bags and will give to Pat. • Based on last year's improvement suggestions, we need to purchase flags to identify hazardous materials, such as needles and syringes. • We need to purchase more grabbers to hand out to community groups and precinct leaders. • Last year we ordered 500 t -shirts and we did not have many left over for Family Fun Night. Pat suggested we order 550 this year. • Neil to reach out to the Emergency Vehicle group to guarantee they are available for narrow/hazardous streets. Pat suggested he add Stearns Avenue to the list and remove Route 106 (from Flint Farm to Easton line). Litter hot spots - Nancy and Neil Nancy and Neil have talked with the Police Chief about the areas in town that need monitoring due to the excessive amount of litter. They are on board to provide video cameras in the areas. More discussion and identification of the spots will be done in the upcoming months. Areas that have already been identified are as follows: National Lumber, Francis Avenue, area off of School Street, County Street, North Main Street (near King Street), intersection of Route 140 and Route 106 by Stop & Shop, Erin's Corner, and area near house that abuts Sweet Conservation (illegal dumping going on at that location since every year Pac 7 & Pac 13 need to pull out all sorts of machinery, etc.). Mike H. agreed to draft a letter to the businesses whose areas are in need of cleanup. He will write the letter with a positive spin, highlighting the importance and business benefit of maintaining and beautifying their property. Adopt -a -Street Project - All and Sethu • After much discussion, we agreed the new name should be Adopt -a -Street to keep in line with Adopt -a -Spot and Adopt -a -Hydrant. • We are planning on making the signup for this program be like the Cleanup signup, which utilizes Google Sheets. • When someone signs up for the program, we discussed handing them a "goody bag" with supplies, such as bags, grabbers, reusable bags, Water Bottle, car stickers, etc. Pat said she would like to head up this part of the project. • Nancy is working with Town Hall on identifying Adopt -a -Street areas on the Town Website. • Sethu Odayappan has written an article describing this new re -branding of Litter Busters. Once Neil reviews, it will go into the Mansfield News and then onto our social media platforms (Facebook, twitter, and website). • Sethu has also interviewed a Girl Scout Troop and Jim and Audrey Crockett to get their perspective of what is involved with litter pickup, etc. The idea is that each week an article will run in the Mansfield News with a different group identified. If the participants agree, Sethu will also video tape them and we can place the video on social media. Tree-Plenish - Sethu Sethu told us about the Tree-Plenish program that he and Lizzy started this year at MHS. Tree-Plenish is a community effort to plant trees around town in order to make MHS more sustainable. Since one tree is equivalent to about 8,000 sheets of paper, there goal is to plant approximately 220 trees to balance out the amount of paper MHS has used in the past school year. One the weekend of May 4th and May 51h, teams of volunteers will be going around the community planting trees in the yards of Mansfield residents. The residents pay $5.00 to pick out a tree and a time for the volunteers to come and plant the tree (some residents plan to purchase but plant the tree themselves). ,For each team of planters, they are requesting 3 - 4 people with one of the members being at least 21 years of age. Buying a tree or volunteer signup can be done on their website www.Tree-Plenish.com. For questions, they request you contact them at treeplenlshteamCa gmail=co m. Sethu said they need to buy the right amount of soil to guarantee the trees stay healthy before planting. Ana offered to advise them on the type of soil, etc. Sethu and Lizzy are graduating this year and asked if KMB would be willing to take over this project next year. Sethu would give us all the contacts and communication tools we would need to implement. We all stated that we would be interested in taking over this project next year and perhaps do the tree planting on the same day as the Cleanup next year. Pat said her house could be the tree distribution center. Sethu would also like to have enough money in the account at the end of May so it would have what it needs to implement again next year. He was wondering if KMB would donate to the account. Sethu would get back to us with the specific dollar amount, but he mentioned $500.00. We all agreed that we would like to donate to guarantee this project continues next year. Refresh our Website - Neil After looking at the Tree-Plenish website, Neil believes it is time for us to update our website with a fresh look. He asked if Sethu would be interested in doing this work for pay and he agreed. Neil will follow up with Sethu on what is needed. Painted Barrels - Pat We have 4 painted barrels available to be distributed. The barrels will go to the following people: Linda Mercier -Janssen for Fultons Pond (she will replace the Duck barrel with a new Duck barrel); Heather Coogan at the Adult Center; Sherri at Mansfield Parks & Recreation; Pat for Family Fun Night. Pat needs to coordinate having these barrels delivered to each person. We still have a waiting list and Mike H. would like to be placed on the list. Pat needs to research how much it would cost to purchase the barrels instead of waiting for DPW availability. Adopt -a -Spot - Martha Martha and Nancy attended the Girl Scout Award Silver Award ceremony. The Girl Scout Troop participates in both the fall and spring Cleanups, painted a barrel, and adopted the Veterans site in front of the Jeep Dealership. They are a very dedicated and resourceful group! Regal Tree responded to the Fundraising letter and would like to donate their time for one -day. Martha suggested they do the shrub pruning and mulching at the two West Mansfield sites (intersection of School Street/Otis Street and area in front of Old Country Store). Martha will follow up with them on doing this effort and perhaps asking if they would be interested in adopting these spots. Action Items - All Nancy Update 2019 Cleanup project plan.
