Cultural Council Logistics (lots of new - We have an online toolkit. members and helpful - Suggestions: websites to go on reminder) and join email list. Meeting Minutes August 29, 2018 Motion to approve minutes Marc, 2nd Eileen 2 abstentions, voted approved 1/31/19 September 20, 2018 Minutes: Motion to approve as amended Chris George. 2nd Marc. Unanimous vote. Approved 1/31/19 November 29, 2018 Minutes: Motion to approve the amended minutes Chris, 2nd Ronald. 1 abstention. Approved 1/31/19. December 11, 2018: Motion to approve the amended minutes Sharon, Chris 2nd, Unanimous vote. Treasurer's Report $6400 received from the state. Report included in minutes. Report done quarterly.— Mass Cultural Council 329 councils that manage under $5000. Update We manage more. The town has matched the state funds. Proud that our town has so much to give out. Council Duties 1. Solicit community input and assess local cultural needs. 2. Establish council priorities for grant applications. Communicate with the public. 3. Report to MASS cultural council 4. Administrative functions 5. Comply to rulings of Massachusetts cultural council Review of 2018 Hosted a grantee reception, tabled at family fun day, abolition day. Recruited new members. Shared info on media. Advocated for town to match state funds. Updated annual report. Town Manager's — _ ard Mathew Smith of Nelson Nygais Business Strategic v evaluating downtown parking. Committee Planning for 2019 Treasurer, Secretary, Chair positions need annual vote. New members, new ideas, new energy. Exciting! Downtown Committee needs a person. Publicist. Co-chair is an option. Different ways to do it. We would like to train the next person. Transitional year with leadership. Make sure we're doing grant process really well. Need to do the survey. Others: Grantee reception. Family fun night. Council designated project. A group of us need to be on board to accomplish this. Pamphlet/book to celebrate history/culture of town. A seed to build stuff from. Award letters J Eileen, Chris, Lisa double check the amount in treasurer's report and minutes before sending. Social media update aUse Facebook, social media. Friend Lisa on Facebook to be able to add content to Facebook page. Can do advocacy around the arts on the page. Cultural District Update Easton nurtured to a point and then started their own council specifically. Lots of momentum. Create a Cultural District organization separate from the Cultural Council, but work closely with. Motion to approve the minutes Sally, Ronald 2nd. Unanimous vote on 3/5/19. Respectfully submitted, CL' Nicole L Burch Secretary Other towns also have used this model. Council and then separate entity oversees Cultural District. Made a lot of headway with State Cultural Council, but need to rebuild relationship because previous contact person left. Talked about Community Meetings. Yes, those are required. If Gail and Katharine remove the District related stuff to its own Council, it frees up Cultural Council to not focus on it. Exciting, new people will join. Rethink what we have to make it artistic. Ready to do this in a larger way. Motion to establish the Mansfield Cultural District Initiative Sharon, 2nd Lisa. Unanimous vote. Gail and Katharine will leave the Cultural Council to start the Cultural District Initiative. Next meeting present 6 month timeline of Initiative.
