Brian Eagle and Yogen Chemburkar, Finance Committee representatives
1. Minutes from 5-10-18 Budget Subcommittee were approved, 2-0
2. FY18 End of Year Update: Ed reviewed that the District was returning approximately $150, 000 to the town, after pre-
paying approximately $45,000 in tuition for out- of -district special education placements.
3. FY19 Update: There was not much to report, since the fiscal year has just begun. Ed noted the district will continue its
practice of holding back 10% in reserve, until later in the school year (spring).
4. FY20 Planning will start in September/October. Teresa would like to see an earlier planning meeting with the three
boards, or be informed of a target number earlier. The target information last year was determined and shared after the
administrators had prepared their budgets. Brian noted that FY20 will also have conservative revenue projections, and the
group discussed the challenge of meeting the budget numbers financially vs. meeting the needs of the district.
5 & 6. Capital Improvement Program and Facilities Updates: Ed gave an update on the status of the FY19.CIP projects: the
1/1 generator is being ordered; paving, sealcoating, and painting is scheduled for early August, with signage in the parking
lot also being improved. They are looking for vendors for the QMS chairlifts. The plow truck and minibus are being ordered;
the old minibus will go to the fire department to be used by emergency management. Technology has been ordered. MHS
bleachers are on schedule for first home football game in September. QMS lockers (FY18) will be installed in August. The
MHS curtain wall repair is scheduled for summer 2019; the challenge with that project is there is a short window of time to
do the work. Ed also gave an update on the water fountain/fixtures at QMS and Robinson, due to elevated lead/copper
levels. The water fountains at QMS have been replaced with water filtration stations; Robinson has a mixture of water
fountains and filtration stations.
In terms of school safety, Ed mentioned the district is looking at a key card access system that could be used in all buildings,
as part of the FY20 capital request at the fall town meeting. A second SRO will be based at QMS (paid for by district in
operating budget). The district improvement plan includes a focus on the facilities report, playground safety report,
technology plan (1:1 initiative), and exploring integrating Roland Green into the East Street campus (with Robinson).
Enrollment planning at QMS and MHS is already being looked at, as numbers are projected to decrease over the next
several years at the secondary level.
Meeting adjourned at 6:10 p.m.
Respectfully submitted,
Lynn Cavicchi
