1. The meeting was called to order at 6:00 PM.
2. Minutes of the Recreation Commission Meeting from July 24, 2018.
Motion: By Ed Westhaver to approve the Recreation Commission Meeting Minutes.
Seconded by Michael Weber. Motion passes, 4-0.
3. Facilities:

Memorial Park Baseball Field- Saturday afternoons, 09/01- 10/27, 4:00-7:00pm
Motion: By Chris Leard to approve the Facilities requests as posted above.
Seconded by Ed Westhaver. Motion passes, 4-0.
4. Old Business:
• Sherri Gurnon updated the Commission on the Plymouth Street Playground. After the two
quotes were received by Sherri, she talked to Kevin Dumas, Town Manager, and he felt
that a project manager needs to work on this and not the Recreation office. The costs greatly
exceeded the $120,000 that was the original budget for the playground. ADA regulations
have changed and the surface materials were becoming a big expense and doubling the
amount that was available by the Recreation Department to put the playground in. Therefore,
it is on hold until Sherri is able to have a meeting with the Mr. Dumas.
• Sherri Gurnon informed the Recreation Commission that she emailed the Open Space and
Recreation Commission stating at this time no one from the Recreation Commission can
make their meetings, but that the Recreation Commission would like to be informed about
their meeting and their agenda for the meetings.
5. New Business:
• Sherri informed the Commission of:
-2"d Annual Community Yard Sale being held at the South Common on September 22; 9a -1p.
- Halloween Costume Swap will be Wednesday, October 17'h, 4:00-8:00pm in the Parks and
Recreation Office.
- Halloween Parade will be Saturday, October 27`h, 2:00pm at the South Common.
Sherri informed the Recreation Commission that there will be a George Dentino Spirit
Award given out for the first time this year in Mr. Dentino's memory.
-Dog Training Demonstration, Wednesday, October 17 at the Library.
-Arts and Crafts Show will be Saturday, November 17.
• Ms. Gurnon handed out a sheet to the Commissioners of the Recreation Department's 5 year
CIP recommendations. The CIP likes to have an idea where the Parks and Recreation's plans
are heading over the next 5 years.
• Sherri informed the Commission that the Mansfield Community Calendar will now run
January to December for the 2019 calendar. In years past, it has run the school calendar year
(September to September), but over the past few years, people were getting confused so the
decision was to go the route of all calendars.
• In addition, Ms. Gurnon informed the Commission that there is a Photo Contest for the cover
of the calendar. It was put out to all the Departments in the Town of Mansfield and on
Facebook. In the past, the cover was chosen at an art show at the Mansfield Public Schools.
• Sherri gave an update of all the fall programs. The Little Kicks soccer filled again and the
Co -Ed basketball, as well. Yoga, Karate and the Preschool Play and Motion are running
again, but the Mom and Child running program did not get any interest so it will be revisited
in the spring.
6. Next Commission Meeting: Tuesday, October 23, 2018 6:00 PM.
To be held at the Town Hall.
8. Motion: By Mike Weber to adjourn. Seconded by Chris Leard.
Motion passes, 4-0.
The meeting was adjourned at 6:35 PM.
