Minutes from 3-5-18 Budget Subcommittee and Minutes from 3-22-18 Budget Subcommittee were approved, 2-0
The committee discussed the Digital Learning Specialist position, which was recently left empty due to a staff member
leaving for another position outside of the district. Mike gave an overview of similar positions in other districts and exit
interview comments from the employee. The group discussed how to proceed with filling the open position. Both Jenn and
Lynn supported the idea of revising the position to a director level in order to have someone with the necessary skills and
experience to move initiatives forward for the district. Mike will take the suggestions into consideration and will work with
Teresa to draft a job description for the position, for consideration by the full School Committee.
Ed explained the district would be able to return unspent funds to the town at the end of FY18, as it has done in previous
years. Lynn and Jenn encouraged the administration to review needs that were unable to be filled in the FY19 budget
request to see if funds from FY18 could be used to for that purpose or if there were FY19 expenses that could be be pre-
paid with existing funds this year.
Teresa reviewed enrollment at the elementary level and class sizes at 1/J and Robinson. There was particular concern about
projected class sizes for KG and 3rd grade, and the administration will be monitoring those numbers and making
recommendations to the full School Committee about staffing as needed. Enrollment planning at QMS and MHS is already
being looked at as numbers are projected to decrease over the next several years at the secondary level.
Ed will be presenting at the Finance Committee meeting tonight with Mike Ahern on the MSBA project
Meeting adjourned at 5:57 p.m.
Respectfully submitted,
Lynn Cavicchi
