3. Facility Requests:
-RBI Baseball Academy wants to use the Memorial Park Softball Field for a girl's softball
clinic. Clinic is July 16-20, 9am-2:30pm. They will give some of the proceeds made at the
clinic to the Mansfield Girls Softball. Sherri Gurnon mentioned that there is little wear and
tear on the field and the field is available. She reminded the Commission that the fees are
normally $70 every 2 hour block. However, she said that she didn't want to discourage them
from coming again if the fees are too high. Ed Westhaver advised that we charge $250 for the
fields, and we can raise it next year if we feel they have a larger turnout.
Motion: By Ed Westhaver to charge a fee of $250 to the RBI Baseball Academy for their
5 day Girls Softball Clinic. Seconded by Chris Leard. Motion passes, 4-0.
-Bay State Games requested Memorial Park Practice Field for an Archery Competition. They
are expecting about 100 people. Sherri Gurnon mentioned that it involves no wear and tear.
It is July 21 and 22, 8a -5p with set up on July 20, 12-5pm. Chris Leard stated that if we just
charge them for their 2 hour blocks, it comes to about $500. The $350 maintenance fee could
be waived as no wear and tear is done to the fields.
Motion: By Linda McCabe to charge a fee of $500 to the Bay State Games for their
Archery Competition. Seconded by Chris Leard. Motion passes, 4-0. Ed Westhaver
added a Friendly Amendment that the fee not exceed 10% of their fees they make on the
competition.
4. Old Business:
-Duck Race is Wednesday, June 27.
-Sherri Gurnon updated the Commission on the Plymouth Street Playground. Sherri Gumon
and Mary Sellner met with Mike Ahem and a contractor who submitted what he would need
to do for a "pour in place" rubber design to make the playground ADA compliant. Ms.
Gurnon gave a handout showing the design of where they rubber would go.
-Sherri Gurnon updated the Commission on the Dog Park. She stated that the issue of the
Dog Park will be on the agenda at the Fall Town Meeting. Legal will need to help draw up
some town by laws regarding the park. It will need to go to Town Meeting for a vote.
7. New Business:
-Sherri Gurnon gave the Commission the Summer Entertainment Schedule.
-Sherri Gurnon asked for the sizes of Summer Camp T-shirts for the Commissioners so they
can be ordered.
-Ms. Gurnon informed the Commission that Wicked Good Chiropractic wants to have an ice
cream truck and a couple of carnival games on their property (next to Fultons Pond) the day
of the Duck Race.
-Brownie Troop 86019 is working on their Wonders of Water Badge. To complete it, they
will be putting up a table with information on the conservation of our resources. They will
help pick up trash after the Duck Race. Ed Westhaver stated that he saw no problem with
them coming and promoting water and conservation as it works with what we are doing at the
race. Mitch Bregnard was concerned that this could open the door to others wanting to do the
same. Sherri Gumon stated the difference is the Brownie Troop is not soliciting, selling or
promoting their organization. Linda McCabe also agreed that it is a good fit to the race.
8. Next Commission Meeting: Tuesday, July 24, 2018 6:00pm, Town Hall.
9. Motion: By Ed Westhaver to adjourn. Seconded by Chris Leard.
Motion passes, 4-0.
The meeting was adjourned at 6:40pm.
