VM. Alternate Present: AWC: Chuck MacKean, Ana V illella, Mary Andrews, Carol Kosel, Erika Cervasio, Joan Brandt ACO: Jeff Collins The Animal Welfare Committee meeting was called to order at 7:10 p.m. at Mansfield Airport. Motion: To approve the minutes from April 191, 2018. Passes. Veterinary - Cats • Fiddlestix — Joan suspects skin allergies, not just his healing wounds, could be causing Fiddlestix to scratch. She questioned if Fiddlestix should see a vet for diagnosis. Erika commented that Fiddlestix was aggressive during an exam this morning, bit Erika, and would have broken the skin if Erika had not been wearing a fleece jacket. Fiddlestix has been known to have mood swings since he has been at the shelter, and to swat when not provoked. Considering his unpredictable aggressiveness, his quarantine, and the need to handle him to treat him, Jeff concluded that Fiddlestix is not safe to keep. The AWC members reluctantly concurred, and Fiddlestix will be PTS on Monday. Lizzy — Ana reiterated that the Tufts surgeon who removed Lizzy's bladder stones wants Lizzy to be on a diet of only SO. Since she gets sick on SO wet, she has to eat SO dry, which is designed to make cats thirsty so that they drink more. We will keep Lizzy on a diet of SO dry and also see if she likes SO with a little water mixed in. After a month on only SO, we will retest Lizzy's urine to see if it continues to be concentrated. Page 1 of 2 Fenway — Erika examined Fenway this morning and found that Fenway has enlarged kidneys, is dehydrated, has enlarged thyroid or lymph nodes, has a mass on her neck that should be aspirated, and has a heart murmur of grade 3/6. The prognosis for Lizzy is not good, and Jeff and the AWC weighed quality of life vs. required treatment, and decided that Lizzy will also be PTS on Monday. Dogs Both Drake's and Tukka's owners reconsidered their decision to surrender, and took their dogs back home. Adjournment Adjourned 8:20 p.m. Signature of Clerk Date: 3715/18 Page 2 of 2
