A meeting of the Mansfield School Committee Budget Subcommittee was opened and called to order at 3:48 p.m.

Minutes for the December 11, 2017 Budget Subcommittee were approved, 2-0.
Update on FY18 Financials
Ed gave an update on the current year financials. While there have not been significant unanticipated costs this year, there
will be some potential expenses for plumbing and fixtures due to the water testing results. A plumber will be visiting the
schools to assess needs and to provide cost estimates. The schools are working with the town to compile damages/property
loss from the recent storm for insurance claims. Ed was not sure if emergency funds would be available from the state also.
Barring any unforeseen costs between now and June 30, Ed felt it was likely the district would be able to return some funds
to the town at the end of the fiscal year.
Update on FY19 Financials
Ed outlined areas were expenses could be reduced in order to help close the overall budget gap for the town: potential
savings in trash services contract, potential savings in the number of student bus runs, and potential savings in HVAC
services/maintenance.
Dates for upcoming meetings were reviewed:
Thursday, March 22, 7 p.m. — School budget presentation to Finance Committee
0 Thursday, April 12, 7 p.m. (tentative) School Committee, Board of Selectmen, and Finance Committee —joint
meeting on FY19 Budget
Tuesday, April 24 was proposed for the School Committee budget hearing. Lynn will check with Kiera about the date. Teresa
will check to see if a date has been finalized for Town Meeting.
Follow up Discussion on School Committee Financial Workshop
Lynn asked Ed to check on the student activity fee cap, since different amounts for the cap were listed in the on line
payment portal. Lynn and Ed will be meeting with Mike Connolly about Student Activity accounts on March 15.
