Welcome & Call to Order
• Meeting called to order at 7:05.
• Nancy welcomed our new member Janice Wivagg. Welcome Janice!
• Minutes accepted from previous meeting and signed by Pat Colbert.
Treasurer's re ort -Mike
• The current balance is $13,859.16.
• The money raised as a result of the Fundraising letter is up over $7,000. Last year we
raised $8,081.
• Nancy is half way done with writing all the thank you notes to people who donated.
Relay, for Life Event - Pat
• Keep Mansfield Beautiful will have an information table at the Relay for Life event on June
16 from 6:00 - 9:00 at Ahern Middle School in Foxboro.
• Pat has setup a Keep Mansfield Beautiful team. Pat will send out the link again so KMB
members can join this team. Even though there is no requirement to donate., Pat started the
account with $50.00 and hoping members will donate a small amount.
March Ma - All
• March Madness was a huge success again this year! We came in second again to the
Mansfield Police. It came down to the last basket, which was a three pointer at the buzzer!
Very exciting! We will win next year!
Wellness - Nancy and Pat
• Nancy and Pat attended the Wellness Expo at the Jordan/Jackson School. This was the first
year this has been offered and it was very well attended. The purpose of the event was to
provide a variety of resources to support the physical and emotional well-being of
elementary -aged children and their families. Our organization was invited so we could
share materials about our programs that can help families and children get more involved
in the community.
We targeted the Cleanup and the Painted Barrel Program and people were very interested
in both of them. We brought two of our painted barrels and they were a big hit!
We gave away our reusable bags. We also donated 4 reusable bags, 4 Cleanup t -shirts, and
two grabbers for the door prize raffle.
Spring CleanIM - All
• The banner was not hung up on April 9th because the Electric Department said the weather
was too bad. They will be hanging it up the following week.
• The Litter Index is scheduled for April 21St. Mike will send out an email requesting
participants. This involves a couple of hours on a Saturday morning to drive around town
rating different parts of town on volume of litter.
• Pat has emailed all the community groups and they have started to sign up.
• Pat will email all the Precinct leaders with the template to use for communicating with
volunteers. The format was used by Jeff and it is very effective as it requests that each
volunteer confirm their participation., t -shirt sizes, and cleanup spot. This method has
proven to reduce the number of no-shows and t -shirt size issues.
• We currently have 3 cases of reusable bags. For each community group, Pat will place all
the supplies in our reusable bags. Pat also gave 40 bags to the Mansfield Food Pantry.
• Nancy and Mike filmed a Cable Access segment and it is currently airing.
• Nancy checked on whether or not we can hand out reusable bags at Town Meeting. They
said we cannot hand out the bags.
• Neil has placed an article in the Mansfield News and has done all the social media for the
Cleanup.
• Jason contacted the Police and EMT and we are all set for their participation during the
Cleanup.
• Nancy and Ana distributed a letter to the abutting residents of Kingman Pond and Fulton
Pond to see if they would be interested in cleaning the ponds via boat on the day of the
Cleanup. One resident has already shown interest in doing this.
• Neil has ordered the t -shirts. We have a new design and have ordered 500 shirts.
• Nancy has communicated with DPW, Xfinity Center, and Waste Management on picking up
the trash and recycle bags from Town Hall on Monday, April 30th.
Adopt,_ - Martha
0 No news to report. Martha will report at the next meeting.
Adopt=otiyeteran Memorials) - Neil and Martha
0 This is an ongoing project. Neil and Martha will report on its status at our next meeting.
Adopt -a -Spot (East Mansfield signage with landscaping) -Ana
Ana would like to pursue a large landscaping project at the corner of Route 106 and
Eastman Street (by Flint Farm). She would like to have stone wall, perennial beds, and a
new East Mansfield Business sign. Currently there is a business sign, but it is 15-20 years
old and in disrepair. This would be a wonderful entrance way to East Mansfield.
Ana is going to write a grant to cover the cost of these items. This project will be done in
collaboration with Keep Mansfield Beautiful, The Garden Club, and the East Mansfield
businesses.
Pat provided Ana a copy of a previous grant proposal for her to use as an example.
Flower Barrels - Nancy and Pat
The flower barrels were prepared on Monday, April 9th. Nancy, Pat, Mike, and Ana
prepared 110 barrels. We currently have 100 requested barrels, but prepared more
because there are always businesses that request a flower barrel after seeing them
downtown.
• Pat has requested 110 pansies from Patrick Lyons. We always want to have extra for
possible additional sponsors and flower damage.
• DPW will be placing the barrels downtown on Wednesday, April 11th. Nancy and Pat Will
oversee this process, which takes the entire day.
• We will be planting the pansies on Saturday, April 14 starting at 8:30 and meeting at the
Bead Cache. We will work our way from Bead Cache to the South Common. By the time we
arrive at 8:30, Mike will have already dropped the flowers into the barrels. He is picking up
the flowers at 7:00 from Patrick Lyons.
• Since we have 100 flower barrels, we would like to fully advertise this program in the
Mansfield News, Sun Chronicle, and Mansfield Patch. Neil will write the article for us. We
will ask some businesses for testimonials to be included in the article.
Painted Barrel update - Pat
• There are only 4 primed barrels available at the DPW, not 10 as Pat had thought. The four
barrels have been delivered to the individuals. There are 3 people on the waiting list to
paint a barrel. When DPW gets more barrels, they will let us know.
Xfinitv program for Non -Profits - Neil
• No news on this. At the last meeting Neil was not quite sure if this was worth pursuing as it
is a huge commitment (6 concerts with a minimum of 6 people), requires training, and the
total amount to be received would only be approximately $5000 - $6000 (this represents a
base amount of $3,500 with a percentage of the profits).
Bertucci fundraising opportunity - Nancy
• Patplaced information about the Bertucci's fundraising on Facebook. On Tuesday, April
24 from 11:00 am - 9:00 pm, Bertucci's will give us a percentage of the sales if you show
them the flyer we posted on Facebook.
• All members should pass along the information to friends and family.
• Because of the Facebook post about Bertucci's, Fresh Catch reached out to us and would
also like to offer 30% of the proceeds for takeout on one day Sunday - Thursday. Jason will
follow up with Fresh Catch and set up a date in June for this fundraising activity.
• Ana suggested we do one of these fundraisers in the spring and another one in the fall to
coincide with our two Cleanups. We all agreed this was a good idea.
Smith & Nephew Earth Day, Event (Fridav, Mav 4) - Nancy and Pat
• Smith & Nephew has asked if Keep Mansfield Beautiful would like to participate in their
Earth Day Event on Friday, May 4 where they are unveiling their new waste receptacles.
Recycling Works assisted Smith & Nephew with this purchase and will also have a table at
the event. Nancy and Pat plan on attending and will setup a table highlighting our
programs.
