5. Old Business:
-Open Space and Recreation Plan workshops had a meeting on Monday, March 19, 2018. Mitch
Bregnard was unable to attend. Colin Cauldwell will be coming to the next Recreation Commission
meeting to talk about things that were discussed at the Open Space meeting that would be of interest to
the Recreation Commission.
-Funding by CIP for the Dog Park was denied, but Sherri Gurnon stated that the Recreation Revolving
account is healthy; therefore, we could fund it ourselves.
-Due to the snow, the measurements needed for the Plymouth Street Playground project haven't been
done. Within the next couple of weeks, Sherri Gumon stated that the measurements will be taken and
the project can proceed. The measurements are needed to measure the amount of "fill" needed as the
ground is uneven there. A late spring, early summer completion is the hope.
6. New Business:
-Registrations for all spring and summer programs are ongoing.
-Duck Race is June 27. Volunteers are needed.
-Fishing Derby is May 12. Volunteers are needed.
-New Programs: Youth Street Hockey: Sherri Gurnon informed the commission that a dad of a 4th
grader wanted to start the program. Ms. Gurnon told him that the fall is a good time to start it so it can
get good advertisement. She said they want to use a parking lot at the high school and will divide it
up in age groups.
Mom/Dad & Me Running Group: Ms. Gumon informed the commission that a mother who is also a
marathoner wanted to start a running group with other parents with children in strollers or not. She
wants to meet twice a week. Again, Ms. Gumon felt that a fall start will allow more time to get the
word out for the program. Routes will be determined by the Program Director, but Sherri Gurnon
thought using the bike path was a good start.
Motion: By Kevin Kemp to approve the donation request of 1 Free Week of Summer Camp
by. MESA for their fundraiser. Seconded by Mitch Bregnard. ,
Motion passes, 4-0.
-A handout informing the Recreation Commission of the quote for dressing the turf field at Plymouth
Street was sent to Sherri Gumon. Mansfield Youth Soccer is looking for any amount of help
financially towards the fee of $19, 412.00 which was the quote given to them by Shaw Sports Turf.
Ed Westhaver asked if we have money in the turf field maintenance account. Sherri Gumon stated
that there is approximately $27,000. Mike Weber inquired about how old the field is and Ms. Gumon
answered that is was 10 years old. Mr. Westhaver asked if they got a quote from the company that did
the high school field or if they got any other quotes. He also stated that he's concerned about the
things "not covered" which is stated on their handout. Mike Weber stated that the quote is just a
"cleaning" of the turf. Mitch Bregnard reminded the board that MYS doesn't pay anything to use the
fields and therefore, they should have money to cover this from their registrations. Chris Leard felt
they should get another quote to which Ed Westhaver agreed and told Sherri Gannon to tell MYS that
we are interested in helping them if they get another quote. If they are in a hurry and don't want to get
another quote, they can fund it themselves and run the risk of $0 -an unknown amount from the
Recreation Commission.
7. Next Commission Meeting: Monday, April 24, 2018 6:00 PM.
S. Motion: By Chris Leard to adjourn. Seconded by Mike Weber.
Motion passes, 4-0.
The meeting was adjourned at 6:22 PM.
