1. Replace 1997 Expedition (Car 49) — replacement cost is approximately $34,500
2. Replace 1996 Dodge van (Car 47) — replacement cost is approximately $22,000
The committee discussed whether the surplus vehicles could go to another department.
3. Replace 1995 Transport - $50,000. This vehicle has low mileage but serious wear.
4. 1995 Harley motorcycle. - It has an approximately $6,500-$7,500 trade-in value.
5. Animal Control Van. The department is using the transport van now for animal
control.
6. Security Card System at Police Station - $14,000.
7. Mobile Video System - $16,000. The department currently uses a 5-6 year old VCR
system and they want to go digital. The proposed video system is portable and
information can be downloaded.
Water Meter Reading - $330,000. The department is in the process of replacing old
meters. The goal is to read meters by radio and to bill monthly. Eventually the Light
Department will convert as well. The department plans to have the conversion done
by November 1. The meters will be paid for through the rates.
Ms. Lavin asked about the timeframe for one bill; the date has not been site, but
monthly billing should be in place by June 2008.
2. Albertini Wells - $70,000 for an iron and manganese study. If the wells are not
brought online, DEP may not allow their use after five years.
These requests will be on the Special within the Annual Town Meeting.
[Mr. Trowbridge and Ms. Miller left the meeting at 7:00 p.m.]
[Ms. Lavin and Ms. Baldwin left the meeting at 7:05 p.m.]
Phase I plant upgrade - $13,500,000. The bid for the proposed work has attracted at least
10 general contractors and 60 subcontactors. The original number was $12,240,000 and
the cost increase is in most part due to an upgrade from sand filter to aquadiamodal filter.
This will be funded through rates with 1/3 of the cost will be paid for by Foxboro and
Norton.
