Minutes March 17, 2009 Motion: To approve as submitted (Trowbridge -Miller) All in favor. PASSES Ms. Lavin said the Finance Committee had a brief discussion of the potential for some Chapter 70 money to be used for capital projects.' The committee discussed the possible use of federal stimulus package money for capital projects. Mr. D'Agostino said he doesn't know yet if the stimulus package money would go to the schools as a grant. As an example, the committee discussed the Canoe River Dam and the possibility of short- term borrowing instead of using stimulus package funds. Chief Boldrighini explained his department's priorities. Rescue 34 is a 2003 ambulance with 75,000 miles. The vehicle typically has a four to five year life span. The replacement will cost $210,000 and have a built-in defibrillator. The chief explained that as an ambulance ages, repairs are expensive, and patient transport comfort suffers. The chief noted that Car #2, a 1998 model with 114,000 miles, is not a high priority but does need replacement. 2. Two Defibrillators - $60,000. The trade-in on the existing equipment is approximately $8,000. The equipment has a life span of five to eight years. The equipment is working now, but the department is concerned about its useful life. Mr. Dentino asked about purchasing one defibrillator and putting the older two together, with one as a backup to, the other, 3. Three Thermal Imaging Cameras - $40,000. The department's cameras are now ten years old and they cannot get new parts, including batteries. The department uses the equipment all the time and are an extremely valuable tool for detecting Mr. Azinheira said they have added place holders on the warrant because grant money through the Federal stimulus package may not be available.
