Mri Vozella explained the department's priorities have been agreed upon by the School
Committee. The committee discussed the following School Department requests.
1. Turf field replacement/track reconstruction: $350,000. Annual Town Meeting 2011
funded $310,000 and the schools put $100,000 from their revolving fund toward the
project. Annual Town Meeting 2012 funded $350,000, for a total of $760,000.
2. Robinson window replacement: $975,000. $375,000 has already been funded. Mr.
Vozella explained that will replace the windows on the first floor. This will be a phased,
three-year project that will replace the windows in the whole school, except for the 1970s
addition. The first floor will cost $375,000 for six rooms; second floor will cost
$975,000; the one-story wing will cost $280,000.
3. MHS Telephone system: $70,000. The Schools and the Town have been meeting to look
at a shared, town -wide system.
The committee discussed whether the asbestos removal at the Robinson School is capital or
maintenance. Consensus was it is a maintenance item and should be in the school's operating
budget. The committee discussed waiting until the end of the fiscal year to see if there is a
balance in any of the repair accounts. The item will be removed from the capital plan.
The committee discussed the Jordan/Jackson chiller and whether it would be best to avoid putting
money into it now, rather than waiting until it breaks and replacing the whole unit.
At the next meeting, the Town Manager and Schools will provide the committee with their
priority lists.
Motion: To adjourn at 7:00 p.m.
