The bike rack has arrived and will be placed at the main entrance
perpendicular to the library between the cannon and stone wall. The
cost is $138.41 to be taken from the Memorial Hall account.
The Capital Improvement budget i.e. library addition was discussed.
A copy of Mrs. Bradner's background material on library addition will
be sent to Mr. Roche, President of the Friends. Mrs. Bradner reported
that we have had six responses to our letter to organizations
requesting permission for trustees to speak on plans for library
addition.
The budget for 1980-81 was discussed and Mrs. Bradner's report
reviewed. Mr. Grady moved that we be aware of the 4% cap but go with
the budget as recommended by our Director. This would be $22,573
for expense budget; Mrs. Willis seconded and motion passed. (See
attached copies)

TRUSTEES MEETING - November 10. 1979 Page 2
The salary budget totals $67,497, a 5.5% increase. Mr. Grady
moved that we go again with the recommended budget. After some
discussion, Mr. Grady amended his motion by adding $180 to line item
600-1, bringing the amended total salary budget to $67,677 and the
total complete budget (salary & expenses) to $90,250 for 1980-81.
Mrs. Willis seconded Mr. Grady's amended motion and it was passed
unanimously.
A discussion of Vera Zayas continuing in her staff position
(6 mos. evaluation) culminated in a motion by Mr. Grady that we follow
Mrs. Bradner's recommendation and send Mrs. Zayas a letter terminating
her employment after December 1, 1979 in the best interest of the
library; Mrs. Willis seconded and motion passed. Janet Rocap, previously
interviewed, is available to fill Veras position. It was unanimously
decided to table the matter until another applicant, Louise Dimeo, is
interviewed.
In reviewing our current application form, Mr. Grady stated it
compiles with the civil rights act.
The White House Conference coincides with children's Book Week.
The theme is "The modern library as an information center". Stickers -

be with a book for a day d- were given to all trustees to be distributed
throughout the gown. Also they will be given to patrons of the library.
The conference is to be user dominated to complement future of librarians '

invited. Payment of tentative $13.00 must be in to town hall by

j condition of the piano in the yA room. The piano is in poor condition
and should be replaced if we wish to have any future musical programs.
TRUSTEES MEETING - November 10, 1979 Page 3 '
Mr. Grady moved that we advertise in local papers for
donation of piano, in good conditon, to the library. Mrs.
Bradner will place the ads.
The Friends organization was discussed at length with
Mr. Grady again recommending that they incorporate in order
to become legally effective fund raisers. Mrs. Seifert moved

next Friends meeting. These to include: refreshments at
library programs, postage for program flyers, coffee for
mothers during story hours and brochure for library addition

TRUSTEES MEETING - December 10, 1979
The meeting was called to order with all members present. The
first order of business was interviews for staff position in the
YA room. Louise Dimeo and John White were interviewed. Mr. White
would have difficulty complying with the work hours required due
to his job at PACE house. On a motion by Mrs. Seifert and seconded
by Mr. Morse, it was voted to hire Mrs. Dimeo effective immediately.
The Secretary's report was approved as read as was the treasurers
report with an amendment that the CSF window painting fee be thken
from the children's account. This was unanimously voted on a motion
by Seifert and seconded by Morse.
Mrs. Willis reported on a Building committee meeting which she
attended. There was a great deal of discussion on retaining the
apse in the present building. Connie Johnson, representing the
Historical commission wishes to maintain building "as is", while
Robert Sacquet of the Building committee takes a more functional
outlook. However, Mrs. Bradner is of the opinion that apse retention
is functional as opposed to using that space for a lobby which she
feels would have little functional use. Mr. Sacquet stated that
the building committee would have the final say on the proposed
library addition. Sacquet dictated a letter to he sent to Washington,
D.C. requesting that the building committee be kept up-to-date on
available funds.
Mrs. Bradner reported on three meetings held with the architect
and department heads. The staff is of the opinion that much work
on preliminary plans was done for architectural effect rather than
efficient functions; for example, the Jogs along side of building
will
present a
problem
with
supervision
of
patrons. Also it Was
felt
that the
alcoves
in the

no
purpose.
