changes mentioned. Betty 'Seconds the motion. ALL IN FAVOR.
DOG OBEDIENCE
Lorilee_to transfer ,$180.00_from the Revolving Account to the
Mansfield Animal Shelter to be donated for the animals. This
money will go towards health testing and 'medical care, shots, and
worming pills. No letter has been written to date. Jeff Collins
(Animal Officer) said it would be to the 'best advantage of the
animals if the ,money 'were to go to the ;above cause. Jeff and '.
Terri 'Geoffrey will work together and put together a'list of the;
animals at the shelter. Maybe Terri can find homes for these
animals at the "Perfect Puppy" talk.
CORRESPONDENCE
Letter from PAT BURNS regarding his new position at UMASS and our
youth basketball program. He will not be able to continue with
the youth basketball program because of his promotion to Assis-
tant Director of Athletics.'
PROJECTED 1992/93 REVENUE-:Lorilee states revenue is going down.
The Arts Lottery will not be donating any money to our programs'
this year.
BUDGET INCREASES
Personnel will go up. Douglas Sears' pay scale will be going up
because of the Union. We also will be 'increasing his hours from
40 weeks to 52 weeks per year under the Parks Department budget.

CAPITAL IMPROVEMENTS - Lorilee is putting in for $100,00 for
Plymouth Street. Plymouth Street will be going on the Warrant
Article, Truck 60 will be taken off the road.
The bathrooms at Memorial Park are functional.
Program fees are no ,expense to the Town.
RAILS TO TRAILS —This program will be 10 to 15 years down the
road. There is no government money. Some people in Town are in-
terested in helping, but nothing has come about. Rails To Trails
will be for people who enjoy hiking, horseback riding, walking,
and jogging. This would be a great trail. The trail begins at
East Street through to the Wastewater Treatment Plant in Norton,
FITNESS TRAIL - Jaycees are in charge of this project. They
would like the Boy Scouts to become involved in clearing the
land. The projected start date is the Spring of 1992,
BUSINESS
Spring & Summer Calendar— Codex would like to have a health Fair
on May 15 at Memorial Park. Lorilee stated that she, needed to
put something in writing so she could bring it 'up before the
Recreation Commission "'Commission asked Lorilee what would be
involved in a health fair. `Lorilee does not have the particulars
yet, but she thinks it would pamphlets on fitness clubs, contacts
for nutritionists, health and foods. It would be one day.
GARAGE SALE -.,This event was held in June last year. We had a
better response when we held it in May. Recreation charges
$10.00 and it is a fun day. This year it is scheduled for May
15, 1992.

NATIONAL FISHING WEEK - June 1st = 7th. Nancy Antonucci would
like to direct a fishing derby. This derby would be :held at
Fulton's Pond. Westboro Fish and Game might be able to stock
Fulton's Pond. We would need to find out at what age you would
need a license to fish. For '$45.00 you would get all the
materials needed. This _would include the :shipping and handling
charges. This kit would include enough materials for 200 - 300
children.
Bill motions to purchase .the package for 400 children ($50.00),
review the package and table this discussion until the ,package
comes in. Ron Seconds the motion. ALL IN FAVOR.
We may'want to charge $1.00 per person, just to keep track of how
many children will be participating.
DUCK RACE
Background - you would number each duck. Sell them for $1.00.
Two people would be placed at Fulton's Pond with a banner.' The
ducks would float down the pond. First 50 ducks to cross the
finish line would win prizes or trophies or ribbons. The ribbons
would be the most inexpensive way out. We need permission from
Conservation to see if we could have the 'boats in the pond. It
would be nice way to kick off the movie series. We would need a
police 'detail to cross the people from Fulton's Pond.Ron would
like this to be more of a promotional event rather than a,money
making event. Maybe this event would sponsor a summer camp
scholarship child, the movie series, etc. We will also have to
make sure that the water level is right to send the ducks
downstream.
Bill motions to have Lorilee plan for the duck race. Betty
seconds the motion. ALL IN FAVOR.
CONCERTS ON THE COMMON
July 4th is usually the kick off concert day. Do we want to have
it Saturday July 4th or Wednesday, July 1st?
Bill motions to accept the Spring and Summer calendar as it
stands, going with Wednesday, July 1st as the kick off for the
Concerts on the Common.

SUMMER SCAVENGER HUNT
Commission would like to bring families out for the summer enter-
tainment series. Would like to have some type of theme to tie
into the summer activities (Arts in the `Park, 'Movies, and Con-
certs on the Common). Maybe a game that you would, pick up a
puzzle piece and come with the solution. Maybe the bands for the
Concerts could play one song with a clue in the song? Lorilee
starts lining these people up in February.
We need to start collecting the information on the movies now and
start looking at the bands for the Concerts on the Common. We
need to draw the families into these activities.
METRO WEST
We have had one scholarship request for the Metro West Team. We
do not have any problems finding coaches. There are plenty for
grades '5 - 8. We have taken out the MIIA insurance at a cost of
$250.00.
RECREATIONAL YOUTH BASKETBALL '
George Costa has been hired as the basketball coach for grades 1
through 4. He has coached all age groups and is a math teacher
at'Qualters Middle School. He comes highly recommended by Wayne
Currie and Mike Mulcahy.
SCHOLARSHIPS
Scholarships will have ,to be filled out for every program, every
year, even if the same person requests the scholarships.
We can earmark certain fees for fund raising programs for
scholarship monies if the Commission wishes. We would then have
to keep track of the scholarships given for each program, pos-
sibly to a budget and, therefore, possibly limit scholarship
monies.

CRAFT FAIR
The craft fair did very well. We raised approximately $4,005.52
before expenses.
TREE LIGHTING CEREMONY
The tree lighting ceremony will be held Sunday, December 1 at
4:00 p.m. We 'still need an elf. Lorilee has not spoken with the
-Elks Club, but will call to see if they will sell coffee and hot
chocolate. This will be on Thanksgiving weekend. Gill Taylor,
Building 'Department, 'will take a look at the gazebo to see what
can be done to alleviate the congestion when the children see
Santa. Schedule: Band - 4:00 - '4:15 p.m.; Chorus - 4:15 - 4:30
p.m.; Fire Chief radios to fire station - 4:25 p.m.; Santa ar-
rives -at the South Common - 4:30 p.m. Santa makes his way to the `
gazebo and starts the count down for the tree lighting ceremony.
Give out candy canes. Hot chocolate will be given away ,from 3:30
p.m. on. Ron Reeves was asked by Lorilee to M -C, this program.
Lorilee to purchase more P.A. Systems so the Chorus can be heard.
ADVERTISING
We could take out advertising costs, for programs such as the
Craft Fair and Garage Sale, out of the revolving account. We
spend approximately $2,500 in advertising per year; $1,500 in
printing per year. All programs will have to, cover advertising
expenses. Weneed to advertise for our programs. Very
important.
