He would like to find creative ways to raise money for the children so they would not have to pay full price for the Mansfield High School Football Camp. There are already coaches volunteering. The cost of their camp went up $33.00 per person this year. Depending on how much money they raise, the imoney `would go to the Boosters Club. The Boosters Club would then reimburse the school. The weight room would be provided for student athletes. The Grid Iron Club would take some of the burden off the Booster Club. The money saved goes to the weight room. The hours would be from 4:00 p.m. to 8.00 P.M. There is $320.00 in the Charles Campbell Memorial Fund. Nothing has been !put in that fund for a while. The people who are in- volved in the Charles(' Campbell fund are involved in the Grid Iron Club. This fund can be transferred to the school department. If the Recreation Department transfers this fund over to the school department, it will be the school department's repsonsibility to maintain this fund and keep this fund active. Paul Jodice, Sr. is getting involved with the Grid Iron Club. He is also involved with the Charles Campbell Memorial Fund. Lorilee thinks it would be a nice gesture to put a plaque over the weight lifting room door. Lorilee will write a memo to Larry Gallagher, Town Accountant and Joan Cutillo, Town Treasurer to have the money transferred back to the school. She will also let Paul Jodice Sr: know she is transferring the money back to the school department. The Recreation Department's main concern is that all ages will be able to use the weight room. The athletic director will run this program.' A letter can be written to the school committee sup- porting the transfer of monies, with usage of the weight room to be available to college students and anyone else who is inter- ested in 'using the weight room. The college students who come back to the high school are a good influence on the high school students. Recreation Commission Minutes March 23 1992' Page 2 Wayne Currie: MOTION to transfer the Charles Campbell Memorial Fund program/Mansfield Youth Football Camp program to the ath- letic department/school committee with a'request from the Recrea- tion Commission that the weight program be open to all ages and be open to Mansfield Residents only. MISCELLANEOUS ITEMS The Recreation Department has bought a trailer for $450.00 to store equipment. Another thought the Commission has ;was developing a "Mission Statement". What is the Recreation Commission there to do? A "Mission Statement" would be very similar to a policy book. .They would like to document rules and regulations, etc. to 'follow. Bill Ciavara will work on a'"Mission Statement" for the Recrea- tion Commission's review. The "Mission Statement" will be reviewed and updated each year. The Commission would like to collect past, policies over the next few months.' They would like to have this "Mission Statement" completed with the basic guiding ; principles by the Fall of 1992. Secretary will .post a meeting notice for April 6, 1992 if the Commission.' needs to meets. SUMMER CAMP State law requires a'health certificate from the children's family doctors. Lorilee has discussed this with Scott Leite, the Town's Health ;Agent, and he stated that the Town is exempt from this regulation because we are a municipality. The Commission will reevaluate the camp at the end of the year. They also want to require a mandatory health record on each child for this year. If the Commission does not follow the rules, they would be fault if something happens. They have to know if we are exempt. Lorilee does not feel this way. She will ask legal counsels opinion. She will also ask Scott Leite to write a letter to the Recreation Commission stating that we are exempt from the rules. Recreation Commission Minutes March 23, 1992 Page 3 Commission would like ,every 'child to fill out a health record before they start camp. Lorilee will talk to a doctor at the Mansfield Health Center to see if anyone :would be available to be on call. Lorilee will keep this item on her agenda until com- pleted. The Commission is thinking, of opening up registration for summer camp to Mansfield residents only until a certain date, then open- ing up registration to out-of-towners for next year. Scholarship people know they will probably be one free week. We will :have to pay attention to the scholarship people. We don't 'want scholarships to getout of 'hand.` Ron would like to hold a meeting one night just to review the summer camp. He would also like to set up a night to get together with the Easton Recreation Commission. Lorilee will advertise again for summer camp the week of April 6, 1992. The Commis- sion is in favor of having "Gary the Silent Clown" perform. FENCE AROUND MEMORIAL PARK In 1988 the original pipe fence was taken down in the park due to deterioration. The old wastewater treatment plant on Fruit Street fencing can be used to replace our old fence. Paul Jodice Jr. would like to speak with the Commission concerning replacing theoriginalfence and actually fencing in the perimeter of the park to keep vehicles off the fields. The Commission feels a fence would not be needed. Lorilee feels that a railing fence is a better approach. TABLED.
