This meeting was held at 6:30 p.m. in Room 101 at the high school due to the
continuation of the Annual Town Meeting starting at 7:30 p.m.
MINUTES:
Betty O'Connor accepts the minutes of April 10, 1995. John Bowen seconds the
motion. ALL IN FAVOR. NON OPPOSED.
BUSINESS:
3 on 3 Basketball: Ray Martin was present to discuss his views and opinions to
have the roster changed to 5 Mansfield residents and 2 non-residents for the 3
on 3 basketball league. Ray thinks it is an excellent idea to change the
roster to 5 Mansfield residents and 2 non-residents for each team. He thinks
it is a good compromise, and will stop the recruiting of non-residents just to
win the games. Lorilee Fish states that no one has applied for the Program
Director position to date. Lorilee also stated that she is in favor of making
only 3 changes to the roster within a specific time period. Ray Martin sug-
gested a 2 week time period, instead of a month, for making any changes to the
roster. He feels they would have already picked the teams by the end of the 2
weeks. The Commission thanked Ray for his time and he was excused with the
Commission's thanks.
Jim O'Driscoll and Eric Klaver came in to talk to the Commission regarding the
roster changes in the 3 on 3 basketball league, also. Ron Reeves stated to
Jim and Eric that Ray Martin had already stopped by.
MOTION: Ron Reeves motioned to amend the basketball roster from 7 Mansfield
residents to 5 Mansfield residents and 2 non-residents and also to have only a
2 week allowance for any changes made to the roster. Maria Gazzolo 2nds the
motion. ALL IN FAVOR. Non Opposed.
Discussion: Jim O'Driscoll would prefer to discuss the 2 week allowance in
any changes made to the roster with the managers of the team. The rosters have
to be in by May 9, 1995. The official roster is accepted June 5, for the 1st
night of play, but they have until June 19, 1995 to make any changes to the
Roster. Jim also likes the idea that the Program Director will check the
roster and identification of residents and non-residents and thinks this will
alleviate all the problems they have been having. He is also disappointed
that he had to bring this matter up with the Commission, but felt that this
was the only way to alleviate the problem of having so many non-residents play
on the same team to win games. Jim O'Driscoll and Eric Klaver thanked the
Commission for their time and was pleased on how the Commission voted.
Elks Fund Raiser: Tom Baker discussed the Elks' Fund Raiser
been working with them. He also stated that the Elks would
Memorial Park field. The fund raiser is being organized so
purchase the electronics building on Maple Street. The fund
won't be until July. Lorilee suggested to get some dates so
is open for that time.

Southard Property: 15 Old Elm Street. Purchased from Andres Gazzolo by Mr.
John B. Southard. Lorilee Fish talked about this property being flat and dry,
a perfect place for a practice field. She stated that Mr. Southard has com-
pleted his part by offering this piece of property to the Town for a lease
program. She stated that the Board of Selectmen would have to endorse this
lease and then it would have to go to the Planning Board for endorsement, and
then to the Recreation Commission for endorsement. There was no further dis-
cussion on this.
Maria Gazzolo was very impressed with the baseball diamond at Memorial Park.
She told Lorilee that it really looks nice.

meeting. Lorilee Fish spoke with Shaun Burke, Planning Director. The John
Berry School building is out for lease. Lorilee read the REQUEST FOR
PROPOSALS to the Commission. Please see TOWN OF MANSFIELD REQUEST FOR
PROPOSALS TO LEASE AND REUSE THE JOHN BERRY SCHOOL FOR EDUCATIONAL ACTIVITIES
dated May, 1995, by William F. Williams, Town Manager, Chief Procurement Of-
ficer.

regarding this. Lorilee will send a memo to the Town Manager asking if he has
heard anything from Counsel. Betty O'Connor feels our hands are tied. John
Bowen stated we would have to take a loss for our labor costs. Ron Reeves
would like to settle for $2,130.90 for the sake of expediency. He would like
Lorilee to keep us informed.

looks beautiful.

costs would be by our next meeting, and would like to have this in place by
the Fall.
Magnets - John stated that Papa Ginos did a promotion with magnets and he will
call them to find out what they did.
BUSINESS:
Summer Camp - Lorilee stated that the cut off for campers registration per
week is 165. She feels 160 would be more practical. She does not recommend
increasing the number of campers. She stated it is filling up fast, and feels
all the spots will be taken up by residents with no room for non-residents.
Ron Reeves feels that if all the spots are taken up by residents, we should
not hold any spots for scholarships. Scholarships are for Mansfield residents
only. Scholarship requests for 12 children to date. Total registered to date
is 177.
Volunteer Award - The award was presented to Ed Tartufo last Wednesday. He
was very surprised and very deserving of it. His wife and 2 children were
present for the award.
Karl Clemmey, Baseball trip - Mr. Clemmey would like to purchase 50 tickets to
a Red Sox game in Boston and would like to pay for the children in Town that
have never been, and not likely to attend, a baseball game. Commission feels
he will need to have chaperons, but also feels Karl, taking the children
without parents, would not be a very good idea. Commission suggests maybe
suggesting to Karl to have a trip to the Paw Sox in Pawtucket, RI instead of
taking the trip to Boston.
Fishing Derby - Lorilee stated that we need volunteers for that morning.
Fishing Derby will be May 5, 1995. Marie Gazzolo, John Bowen, and Betty
O'Connor volunteered their time.
Garage Sale - Sold 79 spaces, 26 spaces left to sell. Lorilee needs help
selling t -shirts. Maria Gazzolo volunteered to help as well as John Bowen.
