Ron wishes to make an amendment to the minutes from August 15, 1994. He thought that
when the board discussed nominating someone for the Volunteer Recognition Award, the
board agreed on nominating Ed Tartufo. The board agrees with Ron's choice. The board
decides to make this amendment.
Ron motions to accept the amended minutes from the August 15, 1994 meeting. Ray
seconds the motion.
ALL IN FAVOR.

Memo from Amos Robinson regarding the schedule change - The Board and Committee
Joint Meetings with the Selectmen that was originally scheduled for October 5 has been
postponed until January, 1995. The change in dates is due to the planning for the
upcoming Special Town Meeting October 24.
The board discussed the letter from the Hockomock YMCA regarding meeting with the
town people concerning needs that should be addressed by the "Y". Ray commented on
how Ken Parsons wanted to do the same thing for Plymouth Street as the YMCA wants to
do. Ken abandoned the project without any reason and Ed Tartufo picked up the slack.
Question were raised as to if the YMCA fund raising project would conflict with the plans
for Plymouth Street. Board felt that a conflict was a possibility. Ron wanted to know if
Mansfield was the YMCA's top choice. Ray stated that Mansfield is still in competition
with other local towns. Mansfield is ahead of the others in terms of being the most
organized. Ron asked that Lorilee keep the board informed of any new developments.
There was only one child that attended the YMCA special needs camp. The bill arrived
and the cost was $420.00. Lorilee commented on a possible reason for the decline in
enrollment. She informed the board that Heather has left the program and she was very
involved with directing the families into taking advantage of the program.
The July revolving and deposits were briefly reviewed. Lorilee told the board that the
revenue given to the town this year was about $37.+. Auditor commented on the large
sum!!!!
Lorilee passed around two thank you notes from a family whose child received a 4 week
scholarship for summer camp. One letter was from the guardians and the other was from
the camper herself. It is nice to hear positive feedback for a change.
TABLED:
Recreation needs approximately $300.00 more to buy the sand for the volleyball court.
Registration for adult volleyball is open to Mansfield residents only for the first 30 days of
sign-ups. After that, nonresidents may register. The registration flyer states where the
registration fee is being used.
Lorilee informed the board that we have yet to hear anything on the Ice Technology. She
is hoping that it will go into arbitration in order to avoid court. Susan Jacobs, town council,
has received all the information about the Ice Technology incident and she has the
guarantees that Ice Technology gave the department.
The new shed for Memorial Park will be built at Southeastern Regional School and brought
to the park for installment. We need to build a foundation for it. The recreation
department still needs to get permission from Burt Cook, Building Inspector, and the
Building Committee before it can be installed.
Mansfield Jaycees have requested a permit to have an 'Enchanted Forest' on the South
Common. It would be built inside, brought out for the event, and then brought back inside
for storage. The event will take place on October 28, 29, and 30 and be open to the public
from 5:00 to 8:OOpm. A $1.00 or $2.00 fee will be charged and the proceeds will go to
food baskets and "Christmas is for Kids". Ray motions to grant the Jaycees a permit for
their Enchanted Forest on the nights of October 28, 29 and 30. Maria seconds the motion.
ALL IN FAVOR.
Alan Weintraub will be at the September 26 meeting to discuss Summer Camp. Ray
informs the board that he will not be at that meeting. Please make sure that Betty can
attend. Lorilee tells the board that there is only one family that owes money from summer
camp. We can either send a letter or waive the $140.00 balance. Ron suggests sending a
letter and see what happens.
Bruce Glazer, Mansfield Cable Access, wants to attend the September 26 meeting to
discuss expanding the press box. There is not enough room to video and announce the
games. If the new field is installed, it would probably be advisable to cut out the back of
the press box so both fields can be viewed. Ron wants to know what we need to do in
order to upgrade. Lorilee talked to Margaret Conaty about a new scoreboard. Ron
suggested that she be present with Bruce Glazer at the September 26 meeting when the
renovations are being discussed. Board agreed.
Lorilee is meeting with Margaret and Eddy Jamison on Wednesday to discuss the
reconstruction of the baseball diamond. Eddy has volunteered both his expertise and use
of his equipment to help with the renovations. The recreation department has some
funding, but Lorilee felt that the school department should pick up the labor cost. She has
mentioned this to Margaret. Lorilee also suggested that perhaps Marriott could assist with
the labor in order to reduce the labor cost.
The Community Calendar looks great!!! There has been nothing but positive feedback.
Joe Burke, Jim Troy and Diane Troy deserve a lot of credit. Ron wants Lorilee to check
with Jim to see what we can do now for next year's calendar.
The ad for the Commission Secretary appeared in the Mansfield news on Friday,
September 9. The deadline for applying is noon on September 30. Ron asked about a rate
of pay. Lorilee informed the board that pay rate is not discussed until the interview. The
board should decide on a rate.
Ray brought up the issue of reinstating standings in the adult summer basketball league.
He has received negative feedback that the league has become too rough and that there are
too many outside recruits. Lorilee agrees that there needs to be more control. There should
be a program director for the basketball program. Ray motions to revise the guidelines for
the 1995 summer basketball program to reflect that all participants be Mansfield residents
and all participants must have proof of residence. Proof of residence will be checked
throughout the season by a paid supervisor for the basketball program. Standings will be
reinstated with the playoffs supervised by the program director. Maria seconds the motion.
ALL IN FAVOR.
Ron brought up the November Arts and Crafts show. He inquired about volunteer support.
Lorilee mentions that this has not been started yet. Ron is currently our only volunteer with
his usual 1:00-4:OOpm shift!
Ray motions to adjourn. Maria seconds the motion.
ALL IN FAVOR.
