Commission agrees to hire an assistant secretary at the park for $5.00 per hour. Memorial Park: Lorilee said the park really looks great. Improvements to the park are coming along nicely. Letter from Bill Ciavarra: Bill was a former Recreation Commission member. Mr. Ciavarra feels the Recreation Department is very important to this Town.He also feels that the zoning issues should have been addressed years ago. The Commission and Lorilee discussed the "Open Space" and Recreation plan being included in the Master Plan. Permits: Request for a wedding on the North Common on September 21, 1996. Lorilee spoke with the Police Chief and he sees no problem with parking. Adult 3 on 3: There are a total of 13 teams for the Monday night league. The league starts on June 3, 1996. Adult 5 on 5: There are a total of 10 total teams. They began June 5, 1996. We are paying 2 people for each game ($5.00 per hour) for timing and scoring and two officials $20.00 to $25.00 per game. Commission would like to go ahead with the purchase of pole pads for the 6 basketball poles. MYBA: Lorilee agrees with the MYBA that the MYBA should remain with the Park and Recreation Department for one more year. She still has to complete the financial report, but Lorilee stated they should be in the "black at least $1,000.00. ;Lorilee feels they need to firm up their volunteer positions. Lorilee would like to see them raise their fees for next year when they take over to purchase a computer to make it easier for them to keep track of their finances. Lorilee will invite Jim Higgins to our next Recreation Commission meeting in July. Ron would like to talk to Mr. Higgins about how we can increase the programs beyond what we see so they can buy the software and computer for the program. Ron would like to "give him a jump start". ; They have never done the legality of becoming incorporated. We will talk to him about the volunteer strength and the incorporation. Lorilee will have a breakdown of the fees needed to run this program for the next meeting. In -Line Hockey: The clinic on June 2, 1996 went very well. There were a total of 55 children registered. Registration was extended to June t4, 1996. Cost: $50.00. Out-of- towners: $55.00. Chief Sliney okayed the use of hay bails. Dr. Nicoletti has okayed the plan. There will be 3 different leagues. Lorilee is hoping for 1 practice and 1 game per week. Ron feels this will take a while to build up. Garage Sale: This event was a success. Chief O'Neil strongly suggests we find another place to hold the sale because we have outgrown the South Common. There is not enough parking to accommodate the people attending the sale. Suggestions from the Commission were the Industrial Park, and Memorial Park. We will definitely move it for next year. Midget Football - Improvements to the Hornet's Nest. They need the Commission's approval. They want to start the renovations immediately with getting permits and the ok from the Health Department. Health Agent, Scott Leite, is concerned because there is no hot running water. Mr. Leite's has agreed to use the same system they have now for drainage (the leaching field) instead of bringing in sewage which would be approximately $10,000.00 just for the sink in the Hornet's Nest. He has agreed to let that remain as is. Arts & Craft Show: Lorilee suggests we increase the fee to $50.00 per space. We usually have 64 exhibitors. Lorilee will look into the Jordan Jackson School for next year (the gym and cafeteria). There is plenty of parking. MOTION: Ron motions to increase the fee for the Arts and Crafts Show from $45.00 to $50.00_ Maria seconds the motion. All in favor. Duck Race: Was wonderful! The hard part was matching the ducks with the numbers when selling them. A lot of fun. Lorilee needs volunteers for next year. Next Meeting: July 15, 1996.
