Existing/Ongoing Projects
Family Fun Night (Tuesday, July 111h)- Pat
• We will sell T-shirts and recycle bags for $2.00 each or 3 for $5.00.
• We have the car trash bags and flyers to handout.
• We will have three games: recycling game, bottle toss game, and grabbing trash game.
• We will have a newly painted barrel for people to sign. It is happy faces with the saying "We
are happy to Keep Mansfield Beautiful".
• We will have a poster highlighting "Coming Events".
• Pat sent out an email requesting volunteers for certain times.
Flower Barrels - Nancy and Pat
• The wave petunias are planted. We currently have 85 barrels.
• We are adding 4 more barrels to contain the self -watering liners that were purchased as part
of the Non-profit Gift Fund. We need to move the 4 whiskey barrels at the DPW site to the
downtown. We are placing 2 barrels in front of Kristi Johnsons building and 2 in front of the
new hair salon in Marco's building. These barrels, in theory, only need to be watered once a
week.
• Erick, Neil, and Jason will work out a time to meet to deliver the barrels. The barrels need to
be handled carefully since the barrels are old and the ring around them is starting to loosen.
• Once the barrels are delivered, Pat, Nancy, and Martha will be there to plant.

Highway Programs - Neil
• Neil highlighted the different types of programs MassDot supports for litter prevention and
maintenance. They are as follows:
Sponsor -a -Highway: An organization sponsors a section of a highway and pays a company
to clean up the litter. The cost is typically $500.00 per month for this service.
Adopt -a -Highway: Volunteers cleanup the area and are provided hard hats and vests.
Adopt -a -Visibility: A landscaper mows the area and the state will put up a sign.
We will target the Sponsor -a -Highway program. Neil will be place information on all our
social media sites plus the Everything Mansfield Facebook page to see if there is any interest
in Mansfield companies getting involved. MassDot indicated that it is usually the smaller
companies that participate and not the larger ones you would expect. We have many small
companies in Mansfield (Car Pros, Jeep Dealership, etc.) that might be interested.
Verizon area - Neil
• The tree at Jason's Adopt -a -Spot will be removed by the town in July. As part of this effort,
we would like the town to also remove all the arborvitae in front of the Verizon building. We
would then like to completely re -landscape this area. Erik would come up with a landscape
plan and we would pay a landscaper to implement Erik's plan. The soil would need to be
amended and the plantings must be easy to maintain and drought tolerant.
• Neil has already contacted DPW about this effort and they have agreed to remove the
arborvitae.
• Nancy is going to talk with the Downtown Steering Committee to get their thoughts.
Recycling Weekend - Neil and Pat
• Neil and Pat attended a meeting with Lee and Christina from DPW. We would like to offer a
Great Mansfield Cleanout over the weekend of October 21st - 22^d.
• We would like the Recycling Center to be open on both Saturday and Sunday and have
Saver's on site to collect textiles.
• Lee and Christina are looking into the Sunday staffing requirements and will get back to Neil
on whether or not this is possible.
Next meeting date: Thursday, September 21st followed by Thursday, October 191s
