The Ximeting was called to order at 8:00 P.M. by President Robert Marshall. All
Board members were present.
The Secretary's Report of the meeting on December 10, 1985 was corrected to in-
clude the fact that the formula grant money is to be used for some printing and
mailing costs for the newsletter, as well as for some craft classes. The report
was accepted as corrected. Also, a note of appreciation will be sent from the
Council to Ruth Noonan .
The Treasurer's Report and Budget Status were reviewed. It is noted that the
line items for both telephone and office supplies are quite low. If any line
item drops significantly, the Finance Committee and Barbara Haag need to be
notified. There will be some surplus in Special Programs which can be applied.
t' The reasons for the expenses are because the contract for two typewriters had
to be paid, paper for the copier was very expensive, and the cost for newspaper
advertisement for an Escort driver proved to be high. The Friends are willing
to kms¢ help with the cost for copier supplies because the machine is used for
their purposes. The report was corrected so that the figure at the top of the
page agreed with the total of $965.23 at the bottom. Joe Corliss moved to ac-
cept the report. Vicki Prasad seconded the motion. It was so voted.

Director's Report:
page 2.
1.) Senior Citizens are being asked to help students at the Middle School.
Karen Carpenter will speak at the Friends meeting, February 5th at 1:30 P.M.
2.) Handicapped Wheelchair Clients will begin using the services of the van.
Gale will contact Town Council regarding insurance coverage for liabilty.
The first wheelchair client is to be transported to the waste -water treat-
ment plant where she is employed. Posters advertising Dial -A -Ride are
being placed in various places in Mansfield. The solution to problems
arising from integrating the needs of wheelchair clients into the regu-
lar bus schedule is being sought.
3.) Gale has compiled statistics regarding use of the facility. These are
based on the sign -in book. More people use the facility and the programs
than actually sign in.
4.) Craft classes are scheduled to begin at 1:00 P.M. This will probably
increase attendance for the noon meal.
Assistant Director's Report:
1.) Last month the van transported 313 passengers and traveled 708 miles
during December. The GATRA reports each trip, to and from a destina-
tion. This causes a higher number of passengers to be listed by their
count. Ada reports to us the actual number of persons transported.
2.) On December 24th, Ada helped deliver packages of home -baked goodies
to shut-ins. The results of this were very rewarding, and the parcels
were received with much appreciation.
3.) Plans are underway for several trips during March, May and June. A new
system for making reservations has been implemented because people have
often cancelled at the last minute in the past. The new plan requires
payment to be made at the time the reservation is made.
Old Business:
1.) Gale has not yet heard if the application for the $5,000.00 discretion-
ary fund has been approved. She is, meanwhile, investigating ways to
maintain programs when funding runs out. Perhaps BCHC will partially
fund us with a grant.
2.) The bus donation fund was $100.00= up $20.00 from last month. A let-
ter, received today, from GATRA states that they are pleased with the
donation system, but will be forced to begin to charge, if Federal
Operating Assistance Funds are cut.
New Business:
1.) Welcome is extened to Judy Cucinotta, who returns to the Board after
a one-year space following her last term as a member.
(COA Minutes 14 Jan 86)
page 3.
2.) The nutrition assessment made last summer/fall resulted in a satis-
factory report, but three areas of concern were noted: a.) Even
though food is covered, the evaluators require that doors not be
left open for ciculation. They suggest the installation of screen
doors, b.) The fire extinguisher needs to be inspected and tagged
annually. The Fire Chief will replace the present extinguisher with
a larger one. c.) A discrepancy in the temperature of the food was
noted.
3.) Election of Officers will be held in April. Nominations are open
for President and Secretary. Responsibilities of the President in-
clude attendance at the B.C.H.C. Board of Directors in Fall Rivery &
3-A hours each month, as well, at special meetings and seminars
4.) A new site for the COA Senior Center was discussed. Our present site
has approximately 2,200 square feet. The new floor plan should cover
a minimum of 6,000 square feet. We need a much larger area so that
we will be able to hold more programs at the center, rather than using
so many other locations. Mansfield is growing, and we need to be ready
to include a greater number of senior citizens. Freetown is planning
to construct a two-story facility. A February 3rd deadline for such
proposals has been set by the Capital Improvements Committee. Inter-
views will then be held through February 21rst.
5.) The meeting came to a musical close with a delightful demonstration
of the new stereo system purchased with grant funds.
The meeting adjourned at 9:00 P.M.
Respectfully submitted,
Patricia J. H , Secretary
