A lively discuss- ion took place over this apparent misunderstanding of the total scope of our Directors duties and responsibilities. On a motion by Vicki Prasad, seconded by Sonja Walgreen it was unanimously voted to have President Patricia Hume write a letter to the Selectmen and Town Manager protesting the downgrading of our Director's position" President Hume is presently in Florida and will return within the week" THE DIRECTOR'S REPORT: A Cholestrol Screening Clinic has been scheduled for October 17th. Gale reported that Ms JoyLee Eppes has applied at Town Hall to be considered as a member of the Council" Gale has applied for a Formula Grant to fund a Co -Ordin- ator for Voluntary Services position" This position is necessary due to the increase in out -reach programs required by our clients and the continuing increase in reporting forms made necessary by various governmental agencies. It is imperative that we add this position to relieve our Director of the paperwork associated with these out -reach programs so that she can concentrate on the day-to- day operation of the facility. The BATRA bus is scheduled to he out of service at the end of August to repair a defect from the manufacturer" H. L. }]loom of Taunton will make the repairs" Gale reported that Walter Poulin, our meals driver, who has been out on sick leave since July, is expected to be back on the job on August 24th" ASSISTANT DIRECTOR'S REPORT: Ada reported that we transported 326 persons a total of 1433 miles in June and 289 persons a total of 1191 miles in July" Ada also reported that some clients were concerned about delays in arriving at the meal site. She explained that the bus has to pick up in Fast Mansfield at the Easton line and also travel all the way out to West Mansfield" Depending on many factors it is likely that delays will occur from time to time and with only one bus to rover the whole town this situation will arise from time to time in the future. OLD BUSINESS., Gale displayed a cardboard copy of a check for $1,500 that the Council on Aging/Library Fundraiser received from the Great Woods -Super Place Picnic Basket fund-raiser. Joseph Corliss reported on the problems the Library/COA building committee is encountering with the Contractor. It is to our advantage not to miss these meetings, held on the 2nd and 4th Tuesdays of each month. The project is about one month behind schedule and to date no effort has been made to speed up the work. Mr Corliss reported that he visits the work -site 3~4 times a week and he brings up the COA's concerns at every meeting" Gale is moving forward, after considerable discussions with the Architect's representative, in getting her kitchen equipment ordered to qualify the COA to receive a $10,00M"m0 grant from Bristol Elder Services" NEW BUSINESS: A request was received from the Town Manager to pro- vide a report on Gaps in Social Services and needs that might exist in Town, nue to the demands on current staff and lack of funds to hire additional staff to provide the proper research for such an important report it was decided to delay any action until after Bale confers further with the Town Manager" Gale brought up a request from the Town Manager that our Escort Drivers provide a waiver to the Town to exempt the Town from any legal suit in the event they are in an accident while act- ing on behalf of the COA" In addition he recommended that they carry at least $3@@,0m0^00 on their vehicles. This added expense was questioned by Joseph Corliss and he felt that it would he very difficult to require such an expense and not compensate the drivers for carrying insurance they might not otherwise need or require" Bale will look into having our clients sign a waiver for all suits against the COA and/or the Town" Sonja Walgreen announced that the Friends of the Library will be holding a Mouse Tour on Sept 24th from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM" They hope to sell 300 tickets at $10.00 each with the proceeds going to the Library/COA Fundraising activities" The meeting closed at 9:40 PM on a motion by Sonja Walgreen, seconded by Vicki Prasad" ully subm,$tted,
