After considerable debate on all the issues, it was decided
that the Council must remain in a neutral position. On a motion by
Joy Lee Eppes, seconded by Sonja Walgreen, it was decided to send a
letter to the Planning Board, with a copy to Cobbler's Corner_,
stating our support of the concept, and the cooperative exchanges we
have had with the group, however., neither supporting, nor denying,
their efforts to build such a facility.
Gale reported on the: death of back --up bus driver Ted Robin-
son, and attendance of the Council, Director and Assistant Director,
at the Memorial Service.
Due to continuing repairs to the GATRA bus, the line item
for maintenance will be expended this month, and future repairs will
show a negative balance in this item.
The GATRA fee, for use of the bus, has been accepted by our
clients, and the advance ,sale of tickets, for use on the bus, goes
well. The use of tickets, purchased at the Center, eliminates the
necessity of the bus driver having to make change while operating
his route.
Gale reported that the construction phase of our new fac-
ility is proceeding as well as can be expected. The Drop Ceilings
are being installed, painting is almost done and the rugs are in the
process of being installed. A date for moving, will be discussed at
the next. Municipal Building Committee meeting, and Gale will have
more on this in March.
U. S. Representative Barney Frank will appear at the Center
1
on February 15th at 10:30 AM to discuss items of legislation or
programs of interest to all senior citizens.

ASSISTANT DIRECTOR'S REPORT:
Ada reported that .in December, prior to the GATRA fee, we
had transported 337 persons a total of 1,277 miles plus an addition-
al 13 persons transported to the annual Christmas Party.
In January, with the new fee in place, we transported 324
persons a total of 1,271 miles. The difference in clients carried
or miles traveled is proof that this service is needed and the small
fee will not deter clients from using this useful service.
OLD BUSINESS:
Gale reported on the meeting with the Finance Board and how
Town Manager Thomas Dwyer was very supportive before them for our
1989/90 budget. The Finance Committee asked the usual questions and
Gale and Tom had the supporting figures to show how important every
item in the budget was essential to the operation, of the Council on
Aging.
The Hand -In -Hand Program will begin on Wednesday Februaxy 1.5
at the Center. There will be a series of lectures each Wednesday on
various subjects relating to seniors and school children. The Pro-
gram lasts from 3:15 to 5:00 PM and all are welcome.
NEW BUSINESS:
The Rotary Home Show will be held this week -end at the Mans-
field Sheraton. Again we will have a Booth to display our services
and programs and Gale has scheduled Council members and volunteers
to man the Booth.
Gale reports we will be the recipient of a $900.00 gift from
the Mansfield Elks.
The Mansfield Women of Today will be putting on a special
Valentines Day Party for all seniors at the Center. on February 9th

Joy Lee Eppes and President Pat Hume reported that the Bris-
tol Elder Services are planning a Fund Raiser, to augment funds that
may be cut from their budget. The plan calls for a Concert by the
Clancy Brothers, a popular Irish singing group, to be held in or
about March, 1990. Updated details will be brought forward as they
develop.
Bristol Elder Services is also considering developing a pas--
ition of Resources Director to keep all member organizations aware
of present and future resources in our mission to assist elders.
The meeting was adjourned at 9:30 PM on a motion by Joy Lee
Eppes, seconded by Judy CucinoLta.
Respectfully submitted,
Corliss Sr
Secretary
