Secretary Lanzikos will be unable to attend our Dedication Program and both Gale and Fres. Pat Hume suggested that it would be nice to invite him to a special tea with the COA Board and our Senior Citizens. This could be incorporated in to our Volunteer Recognition Day in the Spring. Gale reported on the .Jaycee's Cookout and Bingo Party. With the exception of the leaky roof, due to the torrential rains that day, a goad time was had by all in attend- ance. He left but lurked around the outside of the building for some time. gale took down the license plate number of his car. It was suggested that the doors be locked after the Center closes when there is a person or meeting being held. ASSISTANT DIF::EC'CCIFc'_SREh=ORT; Ada reported that we transported '308 persons a total of 1,355 miles. Several new trips are being planned for the future months. The Emerald Square Mall in North Attle- boro will certainly be on the agenda one of these days. OLU_„ ECUS;,[ NESS,. A quote was received from Ellsworthy Products for Acoustical Sound Proofing materials for the Multi-purpose Room. The quote was for $12,000.00 for materials and installation. Due to the lack of sufficient funding available from the Building Fund of the new Library/C:OA now that; the building is completed it will not be able to do this work at this time. Perhaps this can be the subject of a Fund Raising Project in the future. Pres. Hume gave an up -date on the Grand Opening Ceremonies. Rev "Bill" Sadlier, the man primarily responsible for getting the Council on Aging and the Drop--in--renter started, will be on hand and he will give the Invocation to start cuff the Ceremonies. The Center will remain open until 5:00 PM if all goes well that day. Fres. Hume was disappointed in the fact that the local newspapers did not publicize the Ceremonies after she had spent countless hours contacting them and giving them all the necessary data for ea news story well in advance of the (:late. NEW BUSINESS.. Pres. Hume reported to the Board on the recent item in the local newspaper with the headline -- "Party Now -- Pay Later". Tow Manager Tom Dwyer had requested that she appear at the Selectmen's meeting to appraise the Selectmen of they Library/ C:OA Fundraising Committees request for $3000.00 from Town Funds for the Grand Opening Ceremonies on September 16th. The Select- men were not aware of the request before the meeting and Pres. Hume was placed in the enbarasssing position of explaining the reasons for the request. Due to the current funding problems the $ Selectmen were rather upset at having to vote on the request with no prior knowledge of the circumstances. During the debate and in front of the Press the words "Party Now •- Pay Later" were heard and made 'their way into print. The reporting was not good and the article seemed to indicate that the C:OA wanted the money when in reality it was the Fundraising Committee that made the request. MNSFIE}'^CUNCIL~ON..GIN8.._MEETINGF_SEPTEMBER~12TH19B9 There should be a COA/Library combined gift for Gerry Abbott" A Crystal piece was suggested" Joy Leer Sonia and Gale will visit the Unique Boutique and look for a suitable piece in the $60-75"00 range. The School Committee sent us a request for a vol~ unteer to participate in the Superintendent of Schools Search Committee. Joy Lee volunteered to serve and by a vote of the Board with two abstentions' she was appointed our representative" Gale is in charge of booking the Multi -Purpose Room during daytime hours. Organizations are requesting the use of the room on Saturday and Sunday. This presents a problem when the building is not normally open and no one is here to open and then secure the facility" The Jaycees would like to use the room on October 29th for a Halloween Party" A discussion was held and it was suggested that our maintenance man be the one to be here when outside groups use the room. This brought out the fact that when he works week -ends he is required to be paid time and one- half for those hours" If we cannot work this out with the users then other alternatives will have to be sought out. This should be brought to the attention of the Library Trustees so that we might be able to work out a joint user policy for the room" Judy Cucinnotta volunteered to be available if necessary on Oct" 29th. Gale researched the terms of the COA Board members whose terms expire in January,1990" Vicki Prasad, Lois Thomas and Patricia Hume are all up for re -appointment. The Selectmen's Secretary will send out notices in November but each member must go to Town Hall and formally file a request for re -appointment. The meeting adjourned at 9:30 PM. Next meeting is scheduled to be held on October 10' 1989 at 7:30 PM. Rjapectfully submitted, osbh F" Corliss Sr ,Secretary
