Board introduced themselves individually. We discussed our reasons
for being on the Board and gave her an overview of the functions of
the group.
The meeting opened at 7:45 PM with President Hume, Joseph Corliss
Lois Thomas, Sonia Walgreen, Beth Wood, Judy Cucinnotta and Joy Lee
Eppes present.
With the correction of the date for the Valentine's Pot Luck
Luncheon from 2/6/90 to 2/16/90 the Secretary's Report was accepted on
a motion by Joy Lee Eppes and seconded by Lois Thomas.
The Treasurer's Report, Warrants and Budget Status were reviewed
and accepted on a motion by Judy Cucinnotta, seconded by Lois Thomas.
Correspondence was passed around for all the Board members to re-
view as there are several interesting seminars coming up.
DIRECTOR'S REPORT:
Gale reported that the Friends Fuel Assistance Ac-
count had reached $225.00 plus a voucher for 100 gallons of oil from
the Mansfield Lions. This will provide us the capability of taking
care of three emergency oil deliveries. She had written to all the
local oil companies but has had no answer as of this date. She also
had written to all the service organizations in town but due to their
meeting dates and procedural authorizations protocols they had not
answered her letters as of tonight.
Gale reports that she has been in contact with Jay
McCollough of Mansfield Cable Access and he told her the tape of the
Barney Frank meeting at the Center has been edited and will be cable -
cast on Channel 8 on Monday February 19th, all day from 9:00 AM.
Our Inter -Generational Group will present a
special program, " Friday Night Live ", on Friday March 23rd from 7:30
to 10:00 PM at the Center. Admission is free, however, attendance is
limited to 125 persons. Tickets will be distributed at the Center and
other public places in town.

The Clancy Brothers concert for the benefit of the
Bristol Elder Services programs will be held at the Venus de Milo Rest
aurant in Seekonk on Thursday March 1, 1990.
Joan Fabian will be starting a new Art Class in
March.
The Valentine's Pot Luck Luncheon will be held on
Friday, February 16th at Noon at the Center.
ASSISTANT DIRECTOR'S REPORT:
In January we transported 303 persons a
total of 1130 miles.
The bus trip to Emerald Square Mall was
a success and plans are underway to have another trip there in March.
Ten persons took advantage of this special trip and all reported an
enjoyable shopping expedition.
Ada reported that the copier we now have
is rapidly ending its career. Down time and frequent repairs indicate
we will have to replace this vital office machine soon. Ada went to
the Friends and proposed that they assist Gale in securing a new
copier. Gale has about $900.00 available to use for purchasing a new
machine and the Friends have generously agreed to provide her with a
donation of $2,000.00. It was the concensus of the Board that we
should send a letter of appreciation to the Friends for their kind of-
fer to help Gale secure a new copier.
OLD BUSINESS:
In the light of fiscal problems at the State level and
the possibility of drastic reductions in State Aid to the Town we were
asked to scan our budget for possible cuts due to lack of funds. At
the upcoming Finance Board meetings we will have to stress the need to
maintain our budget in order to fulfill our commitment to the elderly
in the community. Our GATRA van, Nutrition and Escort Services, and
numerous programs at the Center are vital services that must not be
endangered by budget cuts.
A new van has been received by GATRA and when it is
lettered with our phone number and outfitted as required by law it
will be put in service. It is a diesel powered vehicle and Joseph
Corliss requested Gale to ask for an engine oil heater to be put in
the vehicle to minimize cold weather starting problems in our un-heat-
ed
nheat-
ed garage.
On Thursday, February 15th, there is to be an emerge-
ncy meeting regarding Bristol Elders Services. The Nutrition Program
is now operating in a deficit, we may have a cap placed on the number
of meals we can serve and their Home Health Aide program may be cut
due to reductions in the State funded programs. New criteria for
Title 3-C nutrition programs served at the Center and Title 20 home-
bound clients nutrition programs will be discussed.

NEW BUSINESS:
A review of the planned program of the Inter -Generat-
ional Group event " Friday Night Live " took place. All were agreed
it will be a worthwhile evening out for all participants and the
seniors we are dedicated to serving.
With the planned cut --backs in State Aid to the Town it
becomes very apparent that some positions will be cut or under -funded
and we will have to depend on volunteers to fill in the gaps in our
services. New ways must be developed to attract volunteers to assist
Gale in providing for our clients the services they so vitally need.
President Hume reminded the Board that it must consider
candidates for election to office of the Council. This will be done
at the March meeting. Joseph Corliss questioned this practice as he
stated that most of the Boards and Committees re -organize in January
following re -appointment or addition of new members. It was pointed
out that the Council's By -Laws set up this proceeding and they would
have to be changed if we wish to re -organize in January in the future.
President Hume also reminded the Board that the posit-
ion of representative of the Board to the Bristol Elders Services will
be open in April when she steps down as President. This requires one
Friday a month attendance in Fall River for updating on services and
°- funding for services that is or would be available to the Council.
Joseph Corliss reported that he had heard rumors to the
effect that the cuts in State Aid could result in such drastic under-
funding that the Center would have to close. Gale dispelled this idea
for the present strictly as a rumor. There has been no such indicat-
ion of any plans to eliminate our budget in view of the fact that we
have just completed building the new Center.
At 8:15 PM on a motion by Joy Lee Eppes, seconded by
Sonia Walgreen the meeting adjourned to March 13, 1990.
