ASSISTANT DIRECTOR'S REPORT
The GATRA Van traveled 1,594 miles and carried 363 passengers. 642 signed in at the
center.
Also beginning to become of some concern has been the increase of transportingpeople
with disabilities. This presents a problem in the respect of scheduling. The assistant
director is doing the best she can and those affected mostly are people callingwith
unscheduled appointments, they have been the hardest to accommodate.
The next planned Friends Fair will be held on October 10.
Next May the Friends are planning on celebrating their 10 -year anniversary at the center
with a party. They are planning several fundraisers in the upcoming year for the party.
OLD BUSINESS

sometime soon with a formal presentation to be held Sept 23 at 10 am with the COA
Board and Director, Town Manager, Selectmen, Library Trustees, Library Director and
some of Jack's family in attendance.
Fencing — Leslie Pasch attended some meetings with the Park and Recreation
Commission with regard to fencing around the center once the new athletic fields behind
the building open. Leslie brought the concern of vandalism to the committee and
requested 6 foot fencing to deter people from walking through or damaging the building
or grounds.
NEW BUSINESS
Funding for Outreach Position — Town Manager had suggested placing an article for the
Town Meeting to add to the Outreach Program increased funding for personnel to handle
the heavy load. The Board supports this and Gale is to find out if the article was added in
time for the Town Meeting.
Donation — was made in the memory of Connie Hall, which went to the Respite Care
Trust Fund. Plaque voted unanimously upon by the board in memory of Connie.
Grandparents program — request for funding from the FY 98/99 Trust Fund to continue
supporting grandparents program. Last meeting held this past Monday with a new
direction of meeting just once a month and referral type of service to take its place. There
is still some money left from grant to take care of program until December. At that time,
the program will be reviewed for possible funding from Trust Fund if appropriate.
Committee reports — Cable — E. Flint reported on current negotiations with Cable
Company. Several different funding requests are part of this talk and Eileen requested
some funding for the COA. Eileen will keep us up to date with these negotiations.
