and Frank Nilson are excused.
Call To Order: Mary Butler called the meeting to order at
3:35 PM.
Minutes: The minutes to the Board meeting of April 20,
2004 were distributed and reviewed. On a motion from
Donna, and a 2nd from Ben, the minutes were accepted by
unanimous vote as submitted.
Budget, Treasurer's Report, and Warrants: Gale presented
the status of the budget, and reported that the budget
is right on track, but tight. Mary issued the
Treasurer's Report and informed the Board that the
balance in the Gift Account is $6,299.95. The
Warrants were examine by the Board, and Donna issued a
motion to accept the Budget, the Treasurer's Report
and the Warrants as presented. With a second from
Ben, the motion was accepted with a unanimous vote.
Director's Report: Triad—The Triad co -coordinators sent
out a fund raising letter to raise money to fund
projects. The mailing has yielded $600.00 to date.
Some of the funds will be used to pay for materials
for the emergency packs. Kausa Dogwood Tree—Gale was
pleased to report that the COA is planning a small
tree dedication ceremony in memory of Ruth Branchini.
Money to purchase the tree was donated by Phil and
Joanne Hickey, who were her friends. They now live in
New York. Her family and Phil and Joanne are invited.
Margaret Mahoney—Margaret Mahoney works for a company
developing a 40B housing project in Mansfield at the
intersection of Rts. 140 and 106. She approached Gale
with an inquiry regarding a donation the company would
like to make to the COA for community use. Gale is
suggesting that the donation be used to help elders
with rental and mortgage arrearages.
Volunteer Day and Rotary Luncheon—Gale informed the
Board that the annual Volunteer Appreciation Day and
the Rotary Luncheon scheduled for May/June has been
rescheduled for the Fall after all the construction
has been completed. The construction firm has
indicated that the work will be completed by mid-June.
Assistant Director's Report: Statistics—In the month of
April, 2004, 752 people signed in for programs, and
449 calls were logged. Bridge Club—Debi reported that
Bridge Club has started, at the request of a new male
guest who is looking to meet people. The club meets
on Thursdays at 12:30 PM. Alzheimer's Conference—Debi
informed the Board that she attended the annual
conference of the Massachusetts Alzheimer's
Association. She attended workshops on Mild Cognitive
Impairment and Imaging. All aspects of the conference
were very good. Alzheimer's Support Group—The
Alzheimer's Support Group spring session is ending in
May. We will offer another session in the Fall.
BESI Nutrition—The meals program has been very busy.
BESI has informed us that we will be packaging the
meals differently—more like frozen meals sealed with
cellophane.
Old Business: Finance Committee—Gale reported that she and
Sonia attended the Finance Committee meeting on May 1.

line items. The COA budget was actually increased—
money was added in Special Services, and also money
was added to the budget to accommodate the rental of a
new copy machine. We did not receive any money to
fund an additional Outreach Worker. The COA has seen
an increase in meals intakes, and the Outreach staff
has been very busy with clients who have financial
difficulties, medical insurance problems, and other
pressing issues.
New Business: HVAC System—Gale reported that the
contractor has been very good with working around our
schedule. The men have been very respectful and
sensitive to our needs. The noise level has been
minimal. They have been very good to work with, and
Gale has spoke to Mike about how great they have been.
Storage—Gale informed the Board that, because the HVAC
system is so big and is in the attic, our storage
space has been eliminated. The Fire Department has
cited both the COA and the Library for hazardous
storage. Therefore, the Friends will be paying for
the installation of new cabinetry in the activity
room. Large Screen TV—Gale is hoping to purchase a
large screen television with money donated for that
purpose. Even though the money is from the gift
account, she will need permission from the town
because the expense is large. She will discuss this
matter with Sonia.
Housing Task Force: Donna reported that the Housing Task
Force business has not changed since the last Board
Meeting. However, there will be a meeting coming up,
and she will have a full report at the next Board
Meeting.
BESI Report: Mary passed out the new BESI brochures
complete with the new logo. Mary talked about the new
direction BESI is taking with regard to programming
and marketing.
Questions and Answers: Mary had an additional request.
She would like to have a overview of all the COA
activities and what they are. There was a discussion
concerning Triad and the goals of the group.
Eileen Walther: Eileen Walther, guest, made a brief
presentation of the services she has to offer to the
COA. She operates a non-medical elder services
business offering companionship, laundry and
errands services to Mansfield Elders. The services
are private pay.
Adjournment: With business being concluded, the Board
voted unanimously to adjourn at 4:45 PM, on a motion
from Ed, and a 2nd from Ben.

item of business, Ed issued a motion to reconsider
