They referred to the old site plan of the previously approved subdivision near Owens-Illinois as they had no current site plan. Their plan is to add to the pre-existing drainage system for their particular site and build an 8,000 square foot building on 11 acres, with the intent of doubling the size of that area in the future. They stated that they MANSFIELD CONSERVATION COMMISSION MINUTES MONDAY, NOVEMBER 8, 1982 PAGE TWO observed no Wetlands on or near the area, and that their building would beon the lowest part of the 6 -acre parcel, Chairwoman Royle requested that before any decision is made regarding the need fora Hearing or not, they submit a current site plan to make sure there would be no run-off problems, no flooding to abutters, and that their drainage will be ade- quately provided for, The Planning Board did ask them for a new site plan since major modifications were being done on the old plan. Traffic flow will consist of 6 to 10 cars in and out and occassional UPS trucks, They are presently located next to the Sharon Post Office which is a heavily congested area, and have had no problems, As they are a reference clinical chemical lab doing blood and medical chemistry tests for hospitals, they do deal with hazardous waste. These are: 1. Organic flammables (methylene chloride) for extracting hormones. One quart per week in evaporation was given as an estimate, 2, 2 - 4 gallons of acids and bases which are neutralized, 3. Radio isotopes (iodine 125) stated as having a lower level than dental Xrays. They stated that they are inspected yearly by the state and that their hazardous waste is neutralized to meet standards for sewer system use, Their waste is put into 30 gallon galvanized drums, loses half-life after 60 days, and can be handled regularly or by commercial carrier trucks. Sodium carbonate and sulfate are kept on hand for possible spills. Chair- woman Royle suggested they contact the Board of Health as to their pro- posed relocation and asked that they further investigate possible wet- lands on or within 100 feet of their site. It was brought to the atten- tion of the Commission that this area is close to two newly proposed well =;te', so care should be taken as to who develops in this area. A follow up letter will be sent to Clinical Science laboratory. Correspondence cont'd: 6. Smith: An on-site inspection was made of the gravel pit owned by J. P. Smith on Balcom Street by Chairwoman Boyle and Commissioner Durbano. They observed a swamp area near the pit, but could not determine the source of the water or where it is going. In order for it to be in the „arisdiction of the Conservation Commission, there has to be a source of the water and a specific outflow area or there is no Conservation jurisdiction. Chairwoman Royle told Mr. Smith to cease any activity within 100 feet of this swamp area until further determination can be made. She also informed the Building Inspector of her findings and he is also aware of the fact that there are stumps being dumped on this land. A letter to J. P.
