Mrs. Jellinek - Hercules Powder Company: Mrs, Jellinek cited 'Whitman &
Howard's Groundwater Resource Management Study Report, page 39, stating
that the property that is presently Conservation land in Maple Park,
(old Copeland Drive) was used as a solid waste dump site for their ex-
plosives manufacturing: It was suggestedl*that whenever Hercules is to
look into their. Stearns Avenue site, that they should be requested to
look into this site also. It was agreed not to discuss this further
until the Town Manager comes in to report on it also,

Powder Company, the Town Manager briefly discussed the following:
1. Michael ••• Angela Estates II: specifically, that the study referred
to in Whitman & Howard's letter of March 16, 1983 was not the study
that the Town of Mansfield agreed to split the fee an with Foxboro.
2. Landf511: Mr. Maurer stated that last June, the Selectmen re-
ceived a report from Whitman & Howard regarding a study of the leach-
ate from the landfill area. Once it is determined how fast the plume
moves, hey can decide on where the monitor pipes should be installed
to do testing. Mr. Maurer is waiting for the cost proposals on the
pipes and wells fleforo determining what the next step is.
Hercules - Maple Park: Mr. Maurer stated that. 25 years ago, two pieces
of land were given to the Town by Hercules Powder Company. This land
is now Conservation property in Maple Park. Another piece of property
further up belonged to the Chocolate Factory and was used as disposal
beds, This land is now the parking lot for. Maple Park. Hercules had
proposed lagoons for a liquid dumpsite but this plan was abandoned.
There were lagoons on Stearns Avenue for dumping pentaerythritol and
the Town landfill was also used for some dumping. It was stated that
no filter cakes were dumped in the upper area of Maple Park.
*Commissioner Webb leaves the meeting for the evening.
When the Town had. the wells sampled in Maple Park, there were no traces
of what was found on Stearns Avenue.; In response to the Commission's
request to have some test holes dug in the area of the Hercules clump
site in Maple Park to determine If there is hazardous waste, Town Man-
