MANSFIELD PUBLIC LIBRARY
BOARD OF TRUSTEES
JANUARY 12, 1989
ATTENDANCE: Janet Campbell (for Dinah Amsden), Colin Cauldwell, Alex
Salachi, Doreen Tighe, Nancy Breef-Pilz.
The January meeting was called to order at 7 PM by chairperson,
Colin Cauldwell. The secretary's report was waived until later in the
meeting, then was approved as read. Due to Marie Willis' illness, the
treasurer's report was made by Alex Salachi and accepted.
The completion date for the NEW LIBRARY SPACE is January 15,
1989; however, the contractor has asked for a 7 week extension. This
will possibly require the'Library/COA to pay for heat and supervision
during this additional time. The Building Committee will hold its
next meeting at the site and discuss this matter.
The PERSONNEL COMMITTEE did not meet last month. They need to
obtain a personnel packet from the Town for references, and have asked
Janet to ask Dinah to do this.
The Town Manager has approved the FY90 OPERATING BUDGET including
a salary raise for both the Director and Assistant Director. He also
suggested raising library fines as an added revenue for the Town.
Doreen Tighe Voiced opposition to this issue, and was Joined by other
trustees. The library budget will be reviewed by the 'Finance
Committee on Saturday, January 21. The exact time will be announced.
During the Selectmen's meeting in December, Colin and Marie
Willis were reinstated as trustees for another 3 year term.
Nominations and elections for officers of the 1989 Board of
Trustees were held. Doreen moved to accept the following slate, which
was seconded by Alex:
Chairperson: Colin Cauldwell
Vice Chair/ Treasurer: Alex'Salachi
Recording Secretary: Doreen Tighe
Corresponding Secretary: Nancy Breef-Pitz
Anticipation of the new library building prompted discussion
about displaying the collection and a possible author program in
connection with 'the ,'High School. Weeding of the collection has begun
in preparation for the move to thenewbuilding. Although closing the
library for a month is possible, it will be ,kept to a'minimum. Before
entering the new facility, consideration of new library hours and a
new staff schedule may be needed.
Doreen questioned the policy of lending new NON-FICTION books for
a 2 week period. Is ,it not limited to new FICTION only ? Janet will
check previous trustees' minutes for the directive.
Colin adjourned the meeting until Saturday, February 4, at 9AM.
Respectfully submitted,
Nancy Breef-Pitz
