MINUTES OF THE DECEMBER 1, 1990 MEETING= l

The December meeting of the Trustees of the Me`l�id
Public Library was held 1n the Trustees' Room of tie`lbar=
on December 1. Chairperson, Alex Salachl, called the
meeting to order at 8:10 AM. The minutes were read by Nancy
and Alex reviewed the financial report. Both were approved
by Alex.
A'closed meeting of the Building Committee will be held
on December 11. This meeting will Involve both lawyers and
the building's contractor.
Colin suggested sending a letter to Steve McCaffrey of
the Building Committee requesting the status of the various
"loose ends" In the library building.
There has not yet been a meeting to divide the funds
from the fundraiser. Ken Parsons Is working from Alex's
figures; therfore, all parties should be 1n agreement. Jeff
asked Alex if he will follow this fundralser through even
though he will no longer be on the board in January.
Dinah reported on the progress of the Library Planning
Process. Reports were derived through the ABLE computer to
determine areas of the collection getting the most use, and
the amount of the budget being spent In each area.
A physical count of dally patrons have been
accomplished for two days during November. A count will be
made again next month.
The FY92 Budget was submitted to the Selectmen. They
agreed with the figures except for salary lncreses. The
Selectmen suggested a 5% Increase instead of 6.5%. The
Trustees have agreed to this.
On December 18, the town employees, Including the
library staff, will vote to accept or reject an organized,
union. Dinah does not feel comfortable reporting on the
progress of unionization, since she will also be part of It.
Alex will organize a meeting with the Town Manager's
Assistant to discuss the union issue.
Since Security Guards -were hired over the November 11
Weekend, there were no problems with vandalism. Bids should
be gathered for a security system In the building. Colin
will contact a security alarm contractor to design a plan
for the library.

later in the month to determine the need.
A copy of the Town's Liability Insurance Policy'`was
left in the folder for all Trustees to review.; Jeff asked
that town council review this policy. The Assistant Town -
Manager will be asked about this during the upcoming
meeting.
A patron complained about Book of Limericks, and will
write a letter to the trustees advising them to "put it on
the 18 year old shelf". Alex asked that a Complaint Form be
given to patron. It will be forwarded to him when and if he
sends a letter.
Jeff asked that library conference requests be
submitted to the trustees at a meeting so the board can vote
on them.
The Trustees' meeting was adJourned at 10:35 AM until
Saturday, January 5, 1991 at 8 AM.
