We read the treasurer's report. Our current balance was $15,792.40. Our CD was rolled
over as of October 1, 1996.
Leslie highlighted the librarian's report. The Five -Year Plan was accepted by the
Massachusetts Board of Commissioners. Jennifer Crotty will be participating in a year-long
internship at the library. She will be organizing the resources in the Certuse/archive room and
preparing a guide for our patrons.
OLD BUSINESS
Leslie presented information about an upcoming fall program, Creative Photo
Preservation, which was approved. This program will run for two evenings, October 7 and
October 17. Another fall program, Tunes for Tots was also approved. This program will run on
Tuesday, October 29.
Leslie gave a thorough presentation on the costs of additional hours for the library. Based
upon the patron survey completed this summer, the trustees are considering three types of
additional library hours. These include: opening on Sundays from 1 - 5 P.M.; remaining open
until 9 P.M. Monday through Thursday evenings; and opening on Saturdays in August. After
much discussion it was decided that Leslie will prepare three budgets for the November Trustee
Meeting based upon the three scenarios.
Leslie updated the Board on building repair issues. She will be sending a letter to David
Fusco to arrange a time for the skylight in the Children's room to be fixed.
The roof patch in the main library has deteriorated to such a point that the roof is now
leaking. Leshe will contact Greg Cauldwell to repair it again.
After much discussion, it was decided that Leslie will send a letter to Bill Williams and
Town Counsel Robert Mangiaratti updating them on our defective shingle claim denial from
Georgia Pacific. She will also send a letter to the Finance Committee with all documentation of
our past and present roof problems. She will invite them to our next joint trustee meeting with
the Council on Aging.
NEW BUSINESS
Leslie informed the Board that Mansfield Youth Soccer currently has 2 violations of the
meeting room. Leslie has informed them by letter that if they have one more violation they will
not be allowed to use the room any longer.
The Board voted to approve (motion by Vivian, seconded by Chris) the hiring of a
security guard for Halloween night, Thursday, October 31. He will be hired for six hours, from 8
P.M. through 2 A.M. The cost will be split with the Council on Aging.
The Board voted to approve (motion by Vivian, seconded by Chris) the purchase of
Netscape for the library. Leslie will prepare policies regarding the use of Netscape for patrons.
