The November meeting of the Trustees of the Mansfield Public Library was held in the
Certuse room of the library on Monday, November 4, 1996. Nancy called the meeting to
order at 4:45 P.M.
Chris read the secretary's report which was approved with one correction.
Linda presented the treasurer's report. Our ending balance was $15, 705.27.
Leslie highlighted the librarian's report. 24 lost items were recovered during the October
two week fine free period. She reported that the LSTA (Library Services Technology Act) has
not yet been federally approved. Due to this, we will not be able to apply for a grant for
multimedia kits. She is anticipating that we may apply for this grant in 1998.
OLD BUSINESS
Leslie presented the FY 1998 budget with variations for the potential addition of expanded
library hours. These variations include opening on Sundays and opening weeknights (Monday
through Thursday) until 9 P.M. After much discussion the Board voted 4-1 (motion made by
Vivian, seconded by Leonard) to present the Finance Committee with the budget reflecting the
additional Sunday hours.
Leslie updated the Board on the building repair issues. Greg Cauldwell patched the roof
as requested. David Fusco will be removing the skylight from the children's room. Leslie sent a
letter to Bill Williams and Robert Mangiaratti updating them on our defective shingle claim denial
from Georgia Pacific. Bill Williams will be attending our joint meeting with the Council On Aging
Trustees on December 10 to discuss this and other issues. He advised Leslie to continue to deal
with the short term roof problems as she's been doing, and to leave the large scale problems for
the capital plan.
NEW BUSINESS
The Department of Recreation has outdoor sculpture, pieces from the children's program
and is looking for areas (i.e., the library) in which to display them. The Board tabled this
discussion until the joint meeting with the Council On Aging on December 10.
The December 24 and 25; December 31 and January 1 hours of the library were set: On
Christmas Eve, the library will be open from 10 A.M. until 3 P.M., on Christmas Day it will be
closed. On New Year's Eve, the library will be open from 10 A.M. until 3 P.M., on New Year's
Day it will be closed.
The meeting adjourned at 6:05 P.M.
The next meeting will be Saturday, December 7 at 8:00 A.M. The joint meeting with the
Council on Aging will be Tuesday, December 10 at 7:45 P.M.
Respectfully submitted,
Chris Cormier Hayes
