Nancy called the meeting to order at 8:15 A.M. Chris read the secretary's report which was approved with no corrections. Linda presented the treasurer's report. Our ending balance was $15,076.02. Leslie highlighted the librarian's report. The Internet is being used extensively by the public with very favorable results. The patron use is limited to one hour, OLD BUSINESS Budget Update: Bill Williams informed Leslie that he and the selectmen will not be recommending the library budget that includes the money for additional Sunday hours as they feel that it violates the hiring freeze set forth on July 17, 1996. We will still be presenting this original budget to the Finance Committee. Roof Update/Capital Plan: As per our joint COA/Library Board meeting with Bill Williams, Leslie will be calling the independent structural engineers to obtain a price for their visit and estimate. NEW BUSINESS Slate of Trustee Officers: After some discussion, Leonard made the motion, seconded by Vivian that the slate of officers within the Trustees remain the same for the 1997 year. These are: Chairperson: Nancy Breef-Pitz Vice Chairperson: Vivian Sweet Treasurer: Linda Lipson Recording Secretary: Chris Cormier Hayes Corresponding Secretary: Leonard Epstein Outside Lights: All seven ground lights were destroyed by vandalism on December 15, 1996. Leslie recommended to the Board that they be permanently removed. She will speak to the Town Lighting Department to see if they will remove them and replace them (preferably with lights on poles). Leslie will call Chief O'Neil to inquire about the status of the vandalism investigation as well as to determine if the police have increased their patrol of the area. She will also write a letter to Bill Williams to state our interest in outside cameral surveillance equipment should GATRA money be made available. Mural: Currently being stored in the hallway of the library is a mural which was painted in 1960 depicting the early days of Mansfield. Since the new town hall building would be an ideal location for it to be hung, Leslie will write a letter to the Board of Selectmen reminding them of the mural's existence and offering it to them. Display Case Policy: The Board reviewed the current display case policy in relation to local artists. We confirmed that the display case will be available for their work non - commercially. Program Approval: The following program was approved: Introduction to T'ai Chi, with Bob Monaghan for Thursday, January 16, 1997 at 7:30 P.M. The meeting adjourned at 10:45 A.M. Respectfully submitted, "-) Chris Cormier Hayes Secretary
