met with the Commission. Paul Boyden told them that the
Commission is to receive a report by March 16 from the Div.
of dater Pollution Control regarding pollution in the Rumford
River. Mr. Haynes said that he personally did not talk to
the representative from W.P.C., that his plant superintendent
did, and that everything seemed to be under control. He'said
that an inspector from the E.P.A. had been out also, arn1 that
in the notice of the inspection report, there is no violation.
He said that Hathaway -Patterson is not getting any "heat" from
the "feds" or the state. He said that his company has received
only one letter from the state, asking when the completiom
would be. There was discussion of oil leaching into the Rum-
ford River at the present. Mr. Haynes said that this has nothing
to do with the way the plant is operated today. He said the plant
started operating in 1953 and that there were formerly pits where
this material was stored, and that it went into the ground near
it. He said the pit is no longer used, and baffles have been
placed between it and the river to keep the material from going
into the river. He also expla ined the 2 sets of skimmers on
the river to keep other material from going downstream. He said
that there was pollution coming from above Hattheway-Patterson
