Mrs. Jellinek warned the Commissioners that Mr. Defleths property on West Street
in sitting on a medium-sized acquifier and that they should not allow him to cut
in a road, Mr. Rys and Mr. Sweet viewed the site and felt it is not a wet area.
Mr. Rys said that it is a marginal area but does not support swamp plant life.
Mrs. Jellinek asked if therein a law which can prohibit a person from diggin,_,
on an acquifier. Mr. Rys will call the Conservation law Foundation for the
answer.
Mrs. Barbara Jones, Ware St., Mrs. Moody, 1 Grant Circle, and Mr. William Auld,
778 Ware St. expressed their concern about the water problems surrounding their
property. Mrs. Jones said that a representative from the Army Corp of Enpjineers
contacted her and told her that there are many problems in the area, specifically
around 775 Ware St. Mr. Tom Hughes, a neighbor, has water in his basement, so
Frank Allen told 14r. Hughes to go to the Town and request the 12" culvert changed.
This is Air. Allen's way of draining his property, she said. There are 9" of water
flowing through this 12" culvert now (hovember 22nd). Mr. Rys asked if the clean-
up of the Canoe River would help her hater problem. She replied yes. Also the
smallstream leading to the river should also be cleaned, she said. Airs. Jones,
et. al. asked if they could be kept informed of any culvert changes and stated
that they were against any changes.
Use of CLTA workers to clean out the Canoe River was discussed. Members agreed
that they could do it under the supervision of the Commission. A letter will be
sent to the Town Manager after Mr. Rys finds out more information about the pro-
cedure and effects of cleaning'the River.
