August 3, 1939
The meeting of the Canoe River Aquifer Advisory Committee (CRAAC) was held
on Thursday, August 3, 1989 :in the Selectmen's Meeting Room, Town Hall, Foxbor-
ough, MA with the following members present:
Wayne P. Southworth, Easton Kathy Romero, :Norton
Joan Sozio, Foxborough Richard Lewis, Piausfield
Dave Risch, Foxborough Suzanne Erikson, Wor.ton
I Call to Order

The following corrections were made on the minutes of June 1, 1989: Under
the list of those present the last name should be Dan Iagatta, I.CI; and on the
second page, .Joan Sozio should be added to the list of committee members.
The minutes were accepted as corrected.
III Base Map/DFNELE Grant/IEP
Mr. Chris Clark of IEP presented an explanation of the maps of the Canoe
River Aquifer that have been completed on the IEP Study. He explained how the
maps were finally put together and how they can be used.
Mr. Clark presented the Committee a handbook with recommendations as to
the most effective way to use the maps.
Mr. Clark will be giving the committee ten copies of the map (2 for each
town involved) and the duplicate copy of the mylar.
IV Land Use Conference
Suzanne Erickson and Lynn White had been working on the planning of this.
They want to get a List from each town as to the Land owners along the Canoe
River and educate them as to the uses and care of the land in the aquifer in
regards to water protection. Ms Erickson mentioned the Audubon Conference on
Saturday, November 11 which will be covering many of the topics --that this
committee wants covered in our Land Use Conference.
Ms Sozio mentioned another conference on October 2nd - 4th at the Sheraton
in Danvers. Mr. Southworth will be speaking in regards to this committee.'This
will not be just covering local agencies but also national agencies are
involved. `
Ms Sozio also spoke in regards to .Lynn's minutes in regards to the Land
Use Conference. She voiced concern in regards to the $175.00 charge by Wheaton
College. Wheaton is usually very cooperative on this type of conference and
doesn't charge. She was also concerned in regards to the $20 registration fee
plus a $10 charge for handouts. In regards to people paying for the luncheon,
she was not too worried. People could have a choice in regards to that.

After a brief discussion, it was decided to have Lynn contact Wheaton Col-
lege .in regards to having the conference on Saturday, March 3, 1990. Also the
Land Use Conference Committee will meet on Thursday, September 14 at 7:30 at
Easton Waterworks to review and revamp the Land Use Conference.
They would like to have the lists of the key parcel owners from the dif-
ferent towns by the time of this meeting. Joan Sozio will get in touch with
Mike Foley of Sharon in regards to their list.
V Loss of Environmental Funis/Request to Contact State Representatives
Maria Van Duesen contacted the Committee with a request for a letter to
our state representatives and anyone who could help getting funds for her
agency as they have been cut. Air. Southworth felt he could not compose the
letter since in his town there :is a possibility of 35 layoffs due to local aid.
Ms Sozio read a letter she had drafted in regards to Ms Van Duesen's
request. Mr. Southworth felt that the Committee should use the letter composed
by Ms Sozio.
VI Appointment Update
Ms Sozio reported John Grant of Easton Conservation was appointed, Tim
Higgins of Foxborough was reappointed and Warren McKay of Foxborough resigned.
She did not know about Sharon as yet.
VII Pat Winter/Proposal
Pat Winter was unable to attend and will be contacting us possibly for the
next meeting.
VIII CRAAC Brochure
Mr. Southworth felt that there weren't enough present to discuss this
matter. fie did mention the fact that the committee should get some envelopes.

We will leave this on for the next meeting.

Joan Sozio had a letter from the Charles River Watershed Agency in regards
to a job opening.
Ms Sozio also had a new edition from D.E.M. for the library on Mass Open
Space Volumes 1 & 2. She also mentioned available software in regards to open
space and water resources.
Mr. Southworth spoke on making copies of the IEP Report. Joan Sozio will
talk to Mr. Gala in regards to making them in Foxborough.
Joan Sozio had received a letter from Senator Kerry's office in regards
to N.E. Earth Day. She will report further on it when she gets more informa-
tion.
The meeting was adjourned at 3:00 P.M.
