HomeMy WebLinkAboutCanoe River Comm 12/20/1989It was reported that 100 books had been ordered. They will have to ask
them to bill each town separately. 150 questionnaires have been sent out
and they have received some back. They have a number of speakers lined
up for the Conference and have received some donations. They have
received $500 from the Lions Club in Easton. The Lions Club in Norton
has also been contacted. They discussed the possibility of having clubs
donate their :coney, designating it for a certain part of the conference.
if they get enough in, they could possibly have a free luncheon. Possi-
bly the money left over could be donated to one of the "land preserva-
tion" societies. It was decided to get in touch with the Representatives
of the towns and cities that include the Aquifer and :invite them to the
conference. We should also include inviting other town committees. They
also mentioned Inviting developers in the area. Maybe an invitation
could be sent to the Home Builders Association in the different areas.
IV. THE ?dINTER COMPANY
At this time, they don't have enough information to decide what we are
going to do. Mr. Higgins said that they had the first draft on December
1 and no recommendations were made in regards to RPAs. Mr. Higgins felt
that they haven't come to a consensus. He felt we have to take some time
to decide what we really want to do. After a lengthy discussion, it was
decided to devote the January meeting to discussing just what the goals
will be in regard to the Winter Group.
ACEC HOCKOMOCK SWA14P ISSUE - Mr. Hardin brought up the fact that the
Canoe River Aquifer should be included in this matter. We have until
December 23 to get a letter in. If we were included, any activity within
the aquifer would come under state rule, adding another 20 days for the
state agencies to study such activity. He feels that this is a factor of
protection that we want to accomplish in our towns now.
After some discussion, the motion was made that the Committee vote to
propose the entire Canoe River Aquifer for the Hockomock Swamp issue.
The Board discussed sending a letter to the administrator of the Inland
ACEC program in this regard along with the IBP report, also getting let-
ters from their respective Boards of Selectmen, Conservation Commissions
and Board of Appeals. Mr. Tartufo felt that since all we are asking for
per se is to be included in the area and nothing more, we should not have
a problem accomplishing this. The Committee felt there was no harm in
trying. The motion was unanimously passed.

Tim Higgins had the completed brochure. Bill Harden suggested that Joan
Sozio look it over. Mr. Southworth suggested that they look it over and
get back to Tim as soon as possible so he can have it camera ready, get
it to the Vocational Technical School and have it ready for the next
meeting.
ANNUAL REPORT
Joan Sozio had nut together a rough draft for the Annual Report and would
like to get approval on it. Tim Higgins had seem some things that needed
to be added however, the report does need to be concise.
VI. OLD BUSINESS
Mr. Southworth said that they will put together some type of display. He
thought people might like to see some of the Maps from the IEP report.
VII. NEU BUSINESS
Joan Sozio reported that she had received a letter from the Massachu-
setts United Church of Christ. They will be holding a conference in
June of 1990 in regards to public concerns. Mr.. Southworth said that
they will put together a package along with the new brochure.
Mr. Southworth spoke on a new type of calcium chloride to be used in
sanding the streets. It really helps the sodium to work into the
streets but the amount of sodium residue is minimum. Mrs. Sozio said
that Al Truax, Highway Superintendent of Foxborough, is looking into
this and will put together information on this matter.
