I. Call to Order
Mr. Southworth called the meeting to order at 1:00 P.M..
Approval of Minutes
A motion was made by Mrs. Romero and seconded by Mr.
Southworth to approve the minutes of August 1, 1991 with the
following correction: Section III - Sole Source Aquifer
Designation - 6th line - response of Leslie Luchonock should read
"yes, it would be worthwhile. It would be added insurance" and
noted all other comments were from other participants. It was so
VOTED.
II. DISCUSSION ON A.C.E.C.MAPS
A discussion was held regarding the following: inquiries
received for copies of map; could an individual Town's area on
the map be enlarged; could map be color reproduced. All of the
above to be looked into for the next meeting.
III. SOLE SOURCE AQUIFER DESIGNATION
Discussed the concerns and advantages of adopting a 'Sole
Source Aquifer Designation'. Pertinent facts: public awareness
was the number one issue; it was the major component in the
proposed Plymouth airport site; fear of not being able to
personally talk with someone at the federal level; does it
accomplish any more than the ACEC designation; would such a
designation open up the Canoe River to federal goals; would we be
giving up some of our rights for protection in the long run; is
dealing with the federal government beyond our control; federal
government is too distance; and how would a sole source
designation be perceived in each of the five communities.
It was the consensus of opinion that more information is
required from the federal level and a meeting to be scheduled in
November for this purpose. In the meantime abbreviated
information to be sent to each community with an invitation for
them to attend or send comments.
IIV. APPOINT DELEGATE TO 'THE HEADWATERS LAND TRUST'
A motion was made by Mr. Grant and seconded by Mrs. Sozio
to appoint Suzanne Erikson and Greg Meister as our delegates. It
was so VOTED. (NOTE: Both to come back with a report)
V. FRIENDS OF BORDERLAND DISPLAY - SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 22,1991
The CRAAC will have a display and volunteers are needed
from 1 to 4 P.M.
VI. STATIONARY - DESIGN CHANGE
Changes were discussed: down size logo; remove border;
enlarge Towns; change coloring; correct 'Street' to 'Road". Mr.
Southworth and Mr. Hardin to come back with some rough drafts.
VII. FALL CONFERENCE IN SHARON - LAKE EUTROPHICATION, GREG
MESITER
Mr. Mesiter stated he would like to set up an educational
meeting on lake management as there is a very complicated issue
of cross jurisdictions. Looking for direction. Some suggestions
were given and it appears the best time for such a conference
would be a Saturday during late winter.
VIII. OLD BUSINESS
Mrs. Sozio noted there are two zip code errors in the
Committee's mailing list (zip code of Sharon).
It was noted the 'Protection of Waterways' bill number is
now 1544.
IX. NEW BUSINESS
Members reviewed correspondence received.
Suggestion was made that since interest has been shown in
how a water work facility functions and at some point this
committee should tour the entire Aquifer, a tour should be set
up. Subject - 'Tour Plan' to be placed on the next agenda.
The next meeting will be in Sharon.
A motion was made and seconded to adjourn.
Meeting adjourned at 3:00 P.M.
