One person from each town will receive extra to distribute along with an explanation letter. This information will be mailed before the next meeting. Wayne offered to supply all paper goods and coffee for the occasion and some members volunteered to help supply some food. IV. COMMUNITY SERVICE INTERN PROJECT The Town of Easton has a young man that is required to do community service. The young man is currently in Easton cleaning the paths near the Canoe River. This is a possibility that may be available to the CRAAC for future clean-up along the river. V. MANSFIELD SUBDIVISION REVIEW -TIM HleeINS Tim was not available at this meeting, but Dick filled us in on what has been happening. Soil concerns are the biggest issue, considering it was a gravel pit filled in. This remains a big issue for the Water Dept. & Board of Health. The Water Dept. should speak up and request soil test be performed, this would guarantee that it gets done. A letter was sent from CRAAC with our concern for the subdivision location, that it may cause trouble in the future. The Public Meeting was held last night, many comments from residents. At this point it is hard to say where the Planning Board will go. Vt. UPDATE ON NORTON LAND ACQUISITION - SUZANNE ERIKSON Suzanne passed around a brochure and photos to be in used when applying for grants, describing the CRAAC.' A cover letter describing the proposal to purchase Norton land was drafted by Leonard and A list of 15-20 places with money was mentioned and available. Phone calls need to be made to the each grant sources for specifications on> applying. It was suggested that the Committee get a letter from the sellers of the Norton Land with a asking price on it to send when applying for a grant. It was agreed that it is important to directly ask for a certain amount of money and explain what it is for. Martha White was the recommended person to see regarding grant writing. The cover' letter was only a=draft and plans to have it match the brochure are in progress. VIII. STORM IMATER MANA6E61ENT SEMINAR RESCHEDULE Leslie O'Shea from DEP was going to get back to Tim and Wayne to finalize the date and it ended up she contacted them after the deadline had passed. It was decided to wait until fall for any rescheduling. VIII. C.R.A. tk.C. ANNUAL ikWAPENESS DAY- MAY 16, 1998 ( 9 A.M. - 12) RED MILL ROAD, EASTON AQENDtk ITE14S Wayne will contact Easton recreation for canoe use and a small tent has already been acquired. Cynthia Wood and Joe Perry are going to have hike routes for those who do not wish to canoe. Refreshments still need to be organized as well as other plans. Tents are still needed if anyone knows of any available to use. 17C. GREEN BELT PROJECT UPDATE Several supporting letters have been sent on behalf of the 180 acres in Norton. MASS Highway does not object to returning the land, but are considering keeping a portion for future highway expansion. Things seem to be going very well and any decisions should be made shortly. X. OTHER BUSINESS Carlos Fragata (Norton Conservation Commission) is requesting comments from CRAAC in regards to vegetation control on 495. The CRAAC decide this would not be a problem to write and will say some of the following comments:- The procedure is '- understandable for weed control as long as they follow rules with regards to distance' and frequency from wetlands, rivers, and travel areas etc. To monitor this law it would be in the Town's best interest to suggest a notification of when the spraying will take> place. This will allow them keep a record of the frequency and to check on the job site. Fred brought to our attention a few questions in regards to a pigary / hog raising in a Zone 3 in Norton. If it was appropriate and if the waste is allowed to be spread in a Zone 3? Mass DEP said they are unable to help due to the fact it is Zone 3. It was voted unanimously to send a letter to EPA with questions about a possible pigary on the land. Also letting them know this is a new location for this kind of activity. The Committee would just like an opinion since it is so close to water and because of the concerns for the future of the land and Nitrate build up. Next meeting Thursday, March 5,' 1998 at Foxboro Town Hall Meeting adjourned at 2:55 P.M.
