IT. Bob Jones gave an update on the Canoe River Awareness Day scheduled for
Saturday, May 15, 1999, at the Canoe River Campgrounds.
Mr. Gonsalves will be giving a history of the campgrounds. He hopes to have a
member of the Flint family speak on their farming that area. Wayne mentioned
that Kerry Mackin from the Ipswich River Watershed Association will be
speaking on water conservation.
III. Gregory Meister spoke on the need of working together to encourage water
conservation throughout the region.
Summer outside watering is still the biggest problem for all the communities. All
- the members participated in the discussion on suggestions for the efficient use of
water. There was concern for restricting sprinkler systems from being connected
to the municipal system and a need to educate the public on the types of grasses
and the amount of loam to be used in new subdivisions. A suggestion was made
to have Planning Boards restrict the size of new lawns.
IV. Bob Jones asked the Committee to support much-needed repairs to the Mill Pond
Dam in Mansfield. Dick Lewis will research if any monies from the original
Grant remain.
V. Leonard Flynn spoke about the purchase of the Rt. 495 land in Norton. The
Mass. Highway official, Donald Lento, has replaced John Flynn and we need to
start the process over.
VI. Maurice Goulet updated the Committee on the Green Belt maps and the ability to
provide any topic we needed as long as we input the necessary information.
VII. Wayne will be mailing out the Green Belt brochures to all the property owners
within 500 feet of the River.

monitoring the Canoe River. The Committee voted to support this Grant.
