HomeMy WebLinkAboutFinance Comm 04/27/1999Minutes of April 27, 1999 Present: James Noris, Chairman Gerald St. Hilaire GENERAL DISCUSSION FINANCE COMMITTEE MEETING Andy Gazzolo Joseph Cutillo, Jr. Mr. Noris handed out copies of the listing of health insurance subscribers. Mr. Cutillo inquired why this information was being given to FINCOM. Mr. Noris explained that Mr. Grady had previously requested the information to find out how many employees subscribe to health insurance offered by the Town. Mr. Noris handed out a memo from the Town Manager to the Shirley MacPhee, Assistant Assessor, regarding the additional part time clerical assistance. He also handed out a memo from the Town Manager to Richard Feeley, MBC Chairman, regarding the requested salary increase for secretarial support. Mr. Gazzolo stated that he was not in complete agreement with the memo from the Town Manager given out at the 4-20-99 meeting regarding Department Head pay adjustments. He stated that although some increases may be in order, he is not in favor of making the adjustments all at once. Mr. St. Hilaire agreed with Mr. Gazzolo Mr. Cutillo inquired about the Ievel of responsibilities of the department heads as compared to their wages. He stated that there are many factors to be considered such as number of employees, tasks, etc... Mr. Noris handed 2 memos from the Town Manager to Chief O'Neill regarding the Dispatch budget adjustments and the Police Department budget adjustments. These memos outlined proposed cuts to various accounts. Mr. Noris stated that the Town Manager would present his budgets at the meeting scheduled for Thursday evening. He also stated that the Town Manager was looking into joining a Blue Cross/Blue Shield insurance pool with the Town of Aeeushnet at a possible savings to the Town of up to $100,000. Mr. Gazzolo inquired if an adjustment had been made to the budget to reflect the possible savings. Mr. Noris stated no adjustment had been made yet and perhaps it would be best if none were made in case the Town is unable to switch. v FINANCE COMMITTEE MEETING pILl�N t MOTION To accept the minutes of 4-20-99. 3 in favor.
