Mansfield Municipal Building Committee Town of Mansfield, Mass. Minutes of meeting of 2/4/92 Page 2 of 2 Chair notes on previous change order (#41), the MBC will request Flynn to absorb some of the cost of the change order. If no response by next meeting (2/12/92), then MBC will take action. R. Gurek reported on library books noting that a Request for Proposal (RFP) has been placed for 12,000 books under CH 308. Three responses (price proposals) have been received and only one is acceptable. HE will request one other company to bid. A discussion regarding the corridor tack boards then began. J. Sarre, P. Sullivan and J. O'Keefe then toured the building to observe the location of the tack boards. The state fire marshall gave his interpretation of the code (31.:3.9 of the NFPA life safety code) that they were indeed illegal and requested they be removed. R. Juusola noted this code has no specific mention as to use in corridors. In fact, it states they should not exceed 20 percent of the wall area (which they do not). J. Sarro also cited a policy statement from the town of Agawam, MA making tack boards in corridors illegal in schools. z' The MBC and the architect noted such a ruling by the town of Agawam was only a policy and the Fire Marshalls only gave his interpretation of the code. The MBC noted the cost of removing all boards and. repairing the walls might be expensive. A suggestion of replacing them with decorative non -tack board material was made. W. Williams instructed a compromise be taken. The compromise will be to determine which boards must be removed and which boards (when modified -to obtain the approval of the Fire Marshall and local fire department) will remain. This plan will be presented by HMFH to the appropriate officials. In addition, HMFH, the fire marshalls office and local fire officials will work -together -to ,get a determination on this issue. A review of fire detection equipment and requested changes then occurred. A walk through was undertaken to actually 'review the physical rooms. The requested changes were taken under advisement and the board directed the architect to have the contractor proceed under "time and materials" mode with an upper cost not to exceed $12000.00 Motion (EG), made, seconded (LA) and voted 5-0-0 to adjourn the meeting. Meeting adjourned at 10:45 P.M. F. Guardabascio February 12, 1992 5= 6— (
