EMERGENCY MEETING
MEMBERS PRESENT: S. MacCaffrie, D. Nicoletti, E. Giordano, F. Guardabascio, L. Carpenter, L
Amoroso, A. Micheli, N. Rupert
MEMBERS PRESENT: D. Young, R. Feeley
GUESTS: W. Williams - Town Manager, B. Jackson - Buildings and Grounds, J. Miller - HMFH
Architects, Inc. J. Chelauski - R. W. Granger and Sons, Inc., D. Battles - Thompson Consultants, Inc.
This meeting was called as a result of the ongoing problems with the heating system at the Jordan/Jackson
Elementary School Complex. Rich Feeley is on vacation. Steve MacCaffrie is presiding as acting chair
during his absence.
Since November there have been 5 frozen units and several frozen and split pipes.
Dick Battles, a consultant from TCI has been retained to observe the system and report back to the MBC
and the School Department. He distributed a report dated 1-24-94 that outlines the problems, in his
opinion, of the heating system. His report stated recommendations that would hopefully offer a permanent
fix.
Bernie told the MBC that he installed 550 gallons of glycol over the weekend.
Steve reported that in his experience with the construction field that he has only seen three cases of frozen
pipes. He would like to see all the parties involved get together this week. At this meeting Bernie would
have both types of unit ventilator pulled and examined. A meeting was set up for 1-28-94.
The MBC also discussed the inadequate heat in the Library. Steve told J. Miller that he feels that the
library was underdesigned. The report from TCI collaborates this. Bernie had been pricing a new heat
coil for the Library.
The snow is avalanching from the roof. The avalanche guards have not been installed due to the frigid
temperatures.
Andrea told the MBC that she has seen water on the window sills of the Library and is very concerned
about possible leaks. Bernie will investigate this. However, it was felt that the leaks may have been a
result of the forceful driving rain. This was an extreme condition.
Natalie was concerned with the public image of the MBC and the School Department. She would like to
see a letter sent out explaining to the parents and staff. A motion was made to send out a joint letter from
the MBC and School Department regarding this matter. Unanimous.
A motion was made to request the representatives from R. W. Granger and HMFH, Inc. to come to the
next meeting of the Committee and give their report. The next meeting is scheduled for 2-1-94 in room
108 in the Jordan/Jackson School.
