PRESENTATION - KEYES ASSOCIATES AND WALLACE FLOYD -SCHOOL Members from the Firms of Keyes Associates and Wallace Floyd Associates gave a presentation of the School Projects. The fust `DRAFT" presentation had been estimated over the approved amount of $23.8 million dollars. Keyes and Wallace Floyd met with members of the School Department and Faculty to make deductions in the original plan. There have been changes in all the schools, however, no classrooms have been cut. Some of the changes have been programmatic in nature. All the new construction has been set at the minimal workable square footage allowed by the state. Specialized subject classrooms will be consolidated, i.e., art, music, home economics etc. Municipal Building Committee Comments: Comments from the members of the MBC included, confidence level to meet our goals and objectives for education while maintaining a tight control over the budget, acceleration of the building process to save money, will the minimum workable size of the classroom be enough room should the class size swell. Public Comments: The public had viewed the presentation and had comments which included, location of cuts, number of classrooms, number of children per class, QMS - auditorium, MHS - library, location of science labs, flow of students, CVI and networking. Members of the MBC thanked the representatives from Keyes and Wallace Floyd for all their hard work and ability to bring the project closer to a realistic situation. The public was reminded that the school renovation project would not be similar to the Jordan/Jackson Project. There are many factors to be covered. This project does not allow for a large expansion of the technical services or library/media centers. NEWBUSINESS: The MBC met with the Finance Committee (FinCom) to discuss the budget increase caused by the approval of the Capital Plan. The MBC budget has been separated from other Board and Committees. The MBC discussed the upcoming selection process for the municipal projects. MOTION: To ask the Board of Selectmen to select three people to vote for the selection of the architect for the municipal projects. (Young/Carpenter) 5-0-1 (Williams abstained) PASSES OLD BUSINESS: Office space has been secured for the MBC at Town Hall. The next meeting of the Municipal Building Committee has been set for February 7, 1995, at MHS - room 101. Respectfully submitted, Maureen R. Doherty J Secretary
