KEYESASSOMTES - SCHOOL PROJECT UPDATE A request was made by the architects to sign off on the design changes and accept the most recent revisions as the final design. OUALTERS MIDDLE SCHOOL: Dan Freeman presented the most recent revisions to the Qualters Middle School project. The floor plans are in the final phase as well as the envelope design. There have been some minor changes some of which will be cost reductions. The asbestos in the schools need to be addressed prior to construction of the project. Bernie Jackson will coordinate this with the bids being opened by the Town Clerk at Town Hall. This will be a reimbursable expense through SBAB. It was advised that precautions be taken to soil protections and removal of all items that are in the area of the removal project. The Committee addressed the handicap project at QMS. There were some minor changes to the project to incorporate the needs of a particular student attending this fall. Keyes Associates will work on a separate contract for this services with the School department. Permanent solutions to ADA accessibility may be assigned to the renovation project however, any temporary measures are not part of the project and cannot be included. The Kitchen consultants have been reviewing the space in the QMS, the square footage may be reduced. The gym space will be squared off. The Committee discussed the curved wall on the west side of the QMS. it was the opinion of the MBC that the engineering costs would be expensive to do this wall. If the wall was made as a diagonal rather than a curve the members felt the costs would be reduced. MOTION: To direct the architect to change the curved wall on the exterior of the kitchen and Library at the Qualters Middle School put back on an angle. (Carpenter/Antoine) 5-0-0 PASSED Dan Freeman was given instruction to redraw this wall to illustrate an angle rather than a curve. ROBSINSON ELEMENTARY SCHOOL: Ron Asthenia presented the revisions to the Robinson Elementary School. There were some drastic changes to the Robinson School Project, that radically changed from the Ed plan that was submitted to the SBAB. It was expressed that the Ed Plan that was submitted and the building plans must match. (Dr. Nicoletti, Emil Giordano and Leo Schiarappa were asked to be present for the discussion - they attending a School Committee meeting across the hall) Emil stated that he had received written notification of approval on the Ed Plan from the SBAB. Any significant changes to the approved plan must be submitted to the SBAB for their review. If there are changes it was feared that the ability to met the July 1, 1995, deadline for submittal would be in jeopardy. Dr. Nicoletti stated that the changes did not increase the square footage as submitted. The changes were made as a result of an increase and staff and the need for additional SPED offices. Even though the square footage of the project remained the same the existing footprint as submitted to SBAB had changes as a result approximately 428 linear feet of exterior wall were added. This would drastically increase the construction cost. The Committee, Dr. Nicoletti and Emil discussed changes that would be appropriate to incorporate the needs of the school without radically changing the existing footprint of the building. Dr. Nicoletti was happy with the revisions. A revised set of plans will be reviewed at the April 4, 1995 meeting. The MBC has the final approval for all project changes. Changes should not be incorporated prior to reviewing MBC approval. The MBC was interested in displaying the plans for public viewing. Mr. Williams will request the display cases at the Library for this purpose. The next meeting for the MBC is scheduled for April 4, 1995 MOTION: To adjourn- 9:55PM (Feeley/Antoine) 5-0-0 PASSES Respectfully submitted, Maureen R Doherty \ Secretary
