appointment of an associate member. It was explained the MBC had been left out of the
"loop" of the entire process. Members of the MBC had read about the resignation and the
appointment of associate members in the local newspaper. The authority to recommend
the appointment of associate members lies solely with the MBC. It was the consensus of
the MBC that the associate member for the school projects should be able to act as a
liaison between the schools and the MBC, a person that has the authority to make a
decision for the school projects. This associate members will have to communicate issues
now and it will be critical to be able to communicate to all the parties involved as the
construction projects evolve. Ms. Chilson apologized on behalf of the School Committee,
stating that is was an embarrassing situation, they had asked for a citizen at large, The
process is now understood. Linda asked for direction on how to proceed. The MBC
recommended that the associate member be able to meet the criteria set forth. Steve
explained that during the construction process of the Jordan/Jackson School, Andrea
Micheli has acted in the role of the liaison between the MBC, School Committee and
School Department. Steve stated that Andrea did an outstanding job in the position and it
was the opinion of the MBC that if Ms. Micheli was willing they would welcome her back
as the liaison.
The MBC and the School Committee also discussed the establishment of a "construction
team" with representatives from each of the schools. Communication is key in this type of
project.
The Gonsalves property was discussed. The School Committee is in favor of purchasing
