SCHOOL PROJECTS UPDATE
Meeting with Ron Ashton, Mike Trowbridge, Don Nicoletti and Leo Sciarrapa
Ron Ashton informed the committee of the discussion that occurred with the meeting between the

clarification on the Robinson School Project. There was an agreement to have the oil tank
removed. There was some discussion on the sprinkler system, only major renovated areas and
where the water mains run through hallways. The personnel count for parking purposes - will meet
the parking standards. Bus routes were reviewed. The egress paths and routes were discussed by
the Fire Chief. There was discussion on the fire routes and notification to the owners and
temporary signs- 11 x 17 layouts.
Discussed presentation on the plans. Tthere were several sets for review. Brief summary of code
issues - going towards implementing current codes or the 96 Building Codes.
The MBC discussed the phasing issues; coordination of the utilities need to be handled before the
r' binder layer in the parking lot is installed. An inquiry was made in regards to alarming exit doors -
just in case a security issues. Member Carpenter would like that to be listed as an ad alternate.
MBC Minutes 8 -6-96
There was discussion on the removal of the oil tank at the Robinson. The Superintendent stated
that the School Department will be responsible for the removal of the tank. What is the status of
the site? There is some contaminated soil and this needs to be removed to the most reasonable
certainty. It is not in the Town's best interest to include hazardous waste - it should be taken care
of prior to the contract award. It would affect the job delay costs. A unit price will have to be
addressed in the contract in the event that additional contaminated soil is found. Is a new fuel tank
part of the chapter 60 work? This needs to be defined as soon as possible. Does the tank need to
be removed because of the leak in the line or would it be because of the Chapter 60 work? The
existing tank is being removed to accommodate the footprint of the new building. The only
problem is with the removal of the contaminated soil. This work must be done by 12/31/96.
There was a discussion on the music room. A classroom will be adapted to accommodate the
future program use as a classroom.
There was discussion on the bid prices coming in high. There was a request by the Committee to
have another estimate done. There is a need to address areas that can be identified as ad alternates.
Leo asked what is the process to make those cuts. A priority list needs to be addressed by the
program staff. The Committee needs to brainstorm as many ideas as possible so that it can be
addressed and approved by the individuals involved. The roof systems was discussed and it was
recommended to be shingled, The weight of the carpet would be reviewed - 32 - 26 ounce or
replace with VCT. Review comments on the plans needed to be forwarded to Keyes on 8-13-96
and with the return of final comments and clarifications with all parties involved by 8-20-96.
The School representatives will be looking into the furnishings budget and develop a plan. The
MBC informed the School representatives that the communication systems are their responsibility.
Conduits will be run in the walls. The wires will not be included.
MOTION: To adjourn (Liddick/Feeley) unanimous
